What it means to be a Carthian.

PURPOSE

I suppose a good enough place to begin is by defining what this document is and what it is not. The intent of this document, if the title was at all confusing, is to lay out what it means to be a Carthian. Understand, Carthians come from almost any background and have many, varying beliefs with regard to politics, religion, and just about anything else that could be disagreed upon. This document aims to lay out the basic principles that form the groundwork of the Carthian Movement; what differenciates us from the other covenants and distances us from the rabble. The primary goal being to dispell the many myths and rumors surrounding our covenant and our membership. To summarize, while we have differing ideas as to the direction our future should take, we are each guided by a basic system towards change which unites us as Carthians.

WHAT IS IT THAT CARTHIANS BELIEVE?

Of all the covenants we know of tonight, the Carthian Movement is, perhaps, the most fluid in how it views its role in kindred society. We do not, as Carthians, believe that we are chosen to rule over all kindred by divine right or by way of weilding the most power and thus exerting our will over the kindred of our domains. Neither do we neglect the fact that, as kindred, we are the best equipped to thrive within our circumstances, improve our system, and better our kindred society as a whole. Rather, we seek to be a bastion of change within our domains. It is our belief that the structure of kindred society as it has been, left to its means, leads inevitably to stagnation and, eventually, the extinction of our kind. It is our general belief that those most able rather than those eldest amongst us are best equipped to lead. To cling to the outdated ways of governance without question is, in our opinion, foolish. Of all the things in which we do believe, merit, freedom, the use of cognitive thought over feeling, it is our belief in the absolute neccesity of change that is the most stalwartly unites us as Carthians.

HOW DO WE ACCOMPLISH THIS?

Just as various as "types of Carthians", if not moreso, are the plans they have to accomplish this change that we seek. Another idea unique to the Carthian Movement is that of drawing consensus. No matter which form the movement may take, we do all things as a direct result of consensus. Resulting systems may assign authority outside of this realm, but only when members are first in agreement that system is best. This idea is further enforced by the famility of our covenant. By this I mean, simply, as a Carthian I am my brother's keeper. Carthians believe strongly in helping their fellow Carthian. Perhaps you need a decent meal, a place to stay, or even some assistance in an area outside your own expertise. As Carthians it is our duty to help in your endeavors, and by doing so to strengthen the Movement as a whole. This assistance is not, however, a security blanket or without restriction. No Carthian should ever assume that the movement will back his every action. A Carthian who threatens the survivability of the covenant whole will be answerable for his conduct to the covenant whole. We, as Carthians, best accomplish our goals by merit of our commitment to each other.

SUMMARY

It is our hope that you have, now, at least some framework to base your ideas as they pertain to Carthians.

-We are not a revolution against the Invictus. Rather, we see the first estate as a symptom of a larger issue. Were the Invictus to disappear tonight, the issues we oppose would not. In fact, it is our experience that many members of the first estate are willing to entertain logical ideas to better kindred society. -We are not rabble rousers or anarchs. -We do not seek to do away with systems which have protected us since time immemorable, namely the tradtions. -We are not a covenant of violence, as any system established through bloodshed provides justification for future bloodshed, to the detrement of all kindred.

-We are united by a common belief in the absolute neccesity of change. -We are united in our belief that the most able should lead as oppose to the antiquated systems of promoting the eldest. Knowledge and ability are not inherited by age alone, just as age is not a signifier of such ability. -We are united in the belief that all kindred are entitled to some degree of freedom. -We are united as a covenant in support of our membership.

GOT QUESTIONS?

Good. Feel free to approach the Carthian nearest you, ask them what it is they believe, who we are, and what we have to offer. I am confident they will be more than willing to fill you in.
