What The Movement Offers

What is the Carthian Movement? As it is with most covenants, those outside the Movement often rely on rumors and innuendo to determine what being a Carthian means. However, the Movement is not as secretive and is more than happy to openly explain what we are about. There are four fundamental principles that make up the backbone of Carthian philosophy.

Brotherhood

We are a collective group. We freely give aid to our Carthian brothers and sisters.

Need a place to sleep for the day?

Need help in finding a decent meal?

Need a mentor to learn new things?

Need help influencing various spheres of mortal power?

The Movement can and does provide assistance in all of these areas and others. We give freely and only ask that you be willing to do so in return for your fellow Carthians. The Movement is often represented as a chain and this is for a specific reason. It is commonly known a chain is only strong as its weakest link, so we actively work to make sure every member of the Movement is a strong link in the Carthian chain.

Freedom

While the Movement does have collective goals and projects, members still enjoy a high degree of personal freedom. In fact, freedom is one of the most cherished ideal within the Movement. You’re free to pursue your own religious and political beliefs. You’re free to dabble in whatever areas interest you whether it be the occult or high society. You're free to spend your Requiem as you see fit, as long as the Movement and your brothers and sisters within the Movement are not harmed by your activities. This freedom often allows the Movement to have a wide array of allies and areas of influence that can in turn help other members.

Merit

The Carthian Movement believes that Kindred of ability – not seniority – should lead. Our leadership is held accountable to the membership and any member with a good idea will be listened to. Hard work and ability count for far more than how many centuries you've been around in the Movement.

Change

Change is perhaps the most unifying principle of the Movement. All Carthians believe in the need for change. This, of course, does not mean we embrace every new idea that comes our way. The change in question must be for the better.

Often the desire for change expresses itself in political beliefs, though this is not exclusively the case. You’ll find many Carthians seeking to establish a more modern, egalitarian society among the Kindred, but others seek to facilitate change through other means.

Why do we seek change? Stagnation is the enemy of the Kindred. While physically we are stagnant – immortal even provided we avoid a few basic dangers – our spirits, our souls, our minds – whatever term you prefer – are still capable of change. To allow our inner being to become stagnant and callous is an open invitation to the Beast that dwells within all of us.
