Veronica Parks

Veronica Parks could easily be voted the Kindred “walking the most difficult tightrope in Atlanta.” The hand-picked Seneschal of Prince Duquette, she doubtless has power in the city, but that power comes at a price. After all, Parks is a Ventrue, and a member of the Invictus. The Ventrue occasionally express their dissatisfaction with the fact that a member of the clan that rules the night is subordinate to a Daeva. The Invictus keep quiet on what they think, but it is doubtful that the whole covenant is enthralled with the idea that one of their own is a Carthian’s lackey.
Parks had been an up-and-coming Kindred before the coup. She was self sufficient, ambitious, and connected. She was viewed as one of those Ventrue, or one of those Invictus, that “people can actually get along with” – which is to say, a moderate. She was always polite, always civil. The only time anyone ever seemed to notice any change in her demeanor was briefly after the coup, but that small ripple was smoothed over when she accepted the position of Seneschal.
Naturally, people wonder why she accepted. Some say that no Ventrue could pass that sort of thing up, others that the Invictus picked her to “save face” by taking a secondary position to the Prince. Still others suggest that she might be the Prince’s lover, or worse – blood bound to the Prince – though these rumors are often hushed whispers, since they risk drawing the wrath of both the Invictus and the Carthians.
While Parks has been an effective Seneschal, and has continued to show the politeness and civility that has always been her hallmark, she occupies a precarious position. Wedged between the Invictus and the Carthian Movement, she must balance her every action carefully. She’s the most important person that most Kindred will meet within a few nights of their arrival, and she almost always makes a good impression on them. Whether this will eventually result in a more positive image for her in Atlanta remains to be seen.
