The Absent Soul and The Corpse Puppet
This theory is Dalen Briggs scholarly pride and joy, worked out meticulously and very slowly due to his less than phenominal natural talents and his Gangrel clan weakness. For this reason it stands as proof that pure determination can, in fact, often make up for less than ideal circumstances. This theory deals with the nature of vampiric souls and their role in vampire's supernatural existences, powers and weaknesses.
The main points of this theory are:
- The soul of a vampire leaves the body for the afterlife upon the death of the Embrace, like a normal soul. It is thus The Absent Soul
- Unlike a normal death a vampire's death leaves the soul connected to the body. This conectio between worlds allows the soul to manipulate the corpse, giving it a semblance of life. It is thus The Corpse Puppet.
- The link between soul and corpse is naturally unstable. It can only be maintaned by constantly passing a thing stream of energy through it to keep it from collapse. It is for this that vampires must drink blood. As the blood is burned within them it "dies" and life energy passes from this world to the next by means of the Soul/Corpse link. This thin stream of traveling energy is enough to force the Soul/Corpse link open.
- Blood may be burned at a vastly accelerated pace in order to force the Soul/Corpse link to expand to several times its normal size and strength. With the Soul and Corpse thus connected the Soul can manipulate the Corpse in ways far exceeding the normal mimicry of life. Additionally, as the Soul is in the afterlife and no longer constrained by physical laws it can use a strong connection to force the Corpse to do the "impossible". This is the basis of vampiric supernatural powers.
- The coils are thus not so much a change of the body but a change of the Soul/Corpse link. For example, The Coils of Blood stabilize the link between Soul and Corpse so that it does not collapse so easily or quickly and thus requires less life force and less potent life force in order to be forced open. Seen only from the point of view of the Corpse this would appear as a lessened appetite for blood, the ability to subsist on weaker blood than normal and even the illusion that one is gaining more blood from victims as less blood can achieve greater results.
