The Torments of Longinus
- Our Working Version: The Torments of Longinus (working version)
- Basic Overview: The story of Longinus’ Requiem, including the Embrace of the Monachus and the foundation of the Black Abbey.
- "The book details Longinus’ efforts to come to grips with his new state, his eventual Embrace of the monk who came to be known as the Monachus, and establishment of the early Black Church." (LS, pg. 51)
- It's style is that of... "A somewhat depressing text evocative of the Old Testament book of Lamentations..." (LS, pg. 51)
- "The last few chapters of Torments deal with his discovery somewhere in Europe of a monastery whose monks had fallen into all manner of sinful activities. Longinus, enraged by the impiety of the monks, slew all of them in a variety of painful ways appropriate to their sins. This section of Torments is lurid and rather gory, with several chapters devoted to the various painful demises of the monks." (LS, pg. 51)
- Longinus then goes and embraces the Dark Apostles, and founds the Black Abbey. This kinda conflicts with the history section of the covenant book. For example, there's no mention of the post-embrace slaughter at the Monachus' monastary (LS, pg. 33), and after embracing the Monachus our pal, Longinus, walks off alone, never to be seen again.
- "After Embracing the Monachus, Longinus and his new childe went out into the world and collected the first Dark Apostles, a group of vampires Embraced for their violation of various sins. The number of the Dark Apostles is unclear, as there are conflicting accounts even within the text of Torments, but most of the Sanctified accept between seven and nineteen. At least a third of the Dark Apostles were women. Each was given a choice between death and damnation, and each chose to walk as Longinus did. The Dark Apostles founded an abbey, called the Black Abbey, as their base of operations for their efforts to spread the Gospel of Longinus across Europe." (LS, pg. 51)
- Now, this makes it appear that either Longinus or the Monachus embraced them all, since "The Choice" is a part of the Creation Rite (LS, pg. 81). But the history says that Longinus walked off (LS, pg. 33)! Likewise, the confusion between the number of Dark Apostles (7-19) and the Monachus's disciplines (the Five Martyrs, LS, pg. 34) makes things even harder to piece together. Huge events in LS history happen between the embrace of the Monacus and the founding of the Black Abbey (LS, pg. 33-36). Now, since the Torments covers a period from about 33AD (after Longinus visited Christ's tomb) to 335AD (the founding of the Black Abbey), you're going to have to decide what to do about these inconsistencies.
Okay, spaced this page out for the layout, though it could use someone going through and subscripting it like on The Malediction of Longinus (working version).

There we go. Its subscripted. Still some weird stuff in there though. The sudden change from first person to third person (and sometimes first again) seems somewhat odd . Even though different parts are in different perspectives, I don't think it should happen between chapters.
