The Area
With it's scenic streets and sidewalks, it's flickering faux Victoria-era gas lamps and periodic meticulously up kept iron-worked benches, The Heights has become the premiere tourist attraction away from the hustle and bustle of Ecclesia. While the Amptons and Plymouth Point might not appreciate the influx of people in and out like Starkhorn Heights does, the residents and those who work in the area most certainly do. Starkhorn has worked itself to appear as safe as absolutely possible in the modern world, and hustlers on street corners - on the rare occasion they do happen - are quickly apprehended by the volunteer police task force.
Criminals that are apprehended by the task force take the next ferry back to the main island after they are booked by the Carcosian Police Booking Outpost located in Ferryway. Ferryway, named for it's obvious Chesepeake Ferry drop point, is lined with expensive boutiques, jewelry stores and other upscale restaurants and retail stores that only market to the super rich. Window shoppers aren't discouraged, either, and the greenspaces and parks in the area have multitudes of seating and lighting for even the most vigorous walking window shopper. One of the ordinances for all greenspaces on Hawthorn Point is that all greenspaces must have a working "tasteful" fountain at the center point of the location. This unifying feature works well to remind those who visit the parks to walk their animals or to hold get-togethers that they are in fact in The Heights. But, on the flip side, detractors say that it also makes all of the greenspaces on the island feel the same and interchangeable.
Not many people complain, though, as the Heights takes good care of it's people, and it's people takes good care of it. Public appearance is important to the Heights; in order to keep individuals from parking their vehicles along the street, they have initiated a stiff fining and court appearance procedure for vehicles found parked along any street. Instead, people must park their vehicles in closed parking lots and building structures purposely designed to feel as though they do not detract from the rich atmosphere of the area.
