The Area

The end of the regularly vacated buildings for offices and sprawling one floor stock warehouses comes to an end somewhere about halfway through Preston. From there on starts the decay leading towards Industrial Park of unfinished buildings, street projects and other assorted city-funded "projects".

The apartments that crowd the small, thin, crumbling streets look old and in serious need of some attention to detail. Many of them have single unit air conditioners hanging out of the windows, along with clothes drying lines from side to side, giving the whole area a very run-down feel, even if it's not necessarily true. The landscaping around those apartment complexes is generally shoddy, with patches of brown and dead grass outnumbering the healthy grass that surrounds their entrance signs.

There are some small-time banking and credit unions in the area, but not many. The banks in Preston are notorious for being robbed by hoods coming from Butcher's Block, while the food businesses are notorious for having homeless lurk about to try and snatch food from the drive-through windows as they're being handed out. Preston has the second highest population of roaming homeless in the city proper, outside of Industrial Park. The fact of that alone keeps all but the people who cannot afford better from moving into the area.
