Description

Piedmont Park is the "Central Park" of Atlanta, Georgia, located in Midtown. The park is one of the most popular of Atlanta, second to Centennial Olympic Park, but is used more frequently for large gatherings, such as the various music festivals, open-air concerts and open-to-the-public theatrical plays.

During the daytime, Piedmont is the model of the city's atmosphere, dogs play, people play catch-and-throw with each other, have picnics, ride bicycles and in general come to relax away from the noise of the city. But at night, the park's large, open spaces framed at the untended corners by shady, tall, wild grasses and shrubbery makes it a favored place for panhandlers, dealers and gang initiations in the off-the-track places around the park.

The lake, Clara Meer, is the main attraction at night, and parties not comfortable with the possibilities of encountering the less desirable elements of Atlanta tend to congregate in and around it.
