Penbrook Manor

Not Common Knowledge     Location: Swordfish Way (Amptons)     Channel Bonuses: +3 Pres (GNP)     Predatory Taint: +2

Atmosphere: Welcoming
Welcoming locations are both more active than Accepting locations and more mercurial. Likely environments include underground raves, meetings of secret societies, impromptu drum circles, biker gatherings, and the like. Some places, which require either an invitation or some secret information to find, assume that those who are there share some common interest, ideal, or understanding, and therefore are places where one’s guard can be lowered. Others, whether due to naïveté or an impressive amount of faith and trust in humanity, simply happily welcome any who find them. Both environments, however, can turn ugly very quickly when the most meager of slights is committed. Whether an accidental signal that tells others that the outsider isn’t supposed to be there or a taboo behavior or simply ruining the party, all such acts are punishable with snubbing, expulsion, mockery, or even attack depending on the mood and lifestyle of those present.

The grounds are regularly patrolled by private security.

Description

The Greek revival style house is located in the Amptons, nestled snugly between the other neo-classical houses ranging up and down the residential street. Four white columns decorate the front and decorative chimneys define both ends of the house. Guests to the house are always greeted by a formally dressed man, who most would consider a butler, before stepping into the stone tiled foyer with it's curved staircases and soaring ceilings. The man, Stephen Rothburg, never seems to be hovering around but always manages to unobtrusively appear when he's needed.

Although few guests would see beyond the first, ultra-formal, floor there are actually four levels that make up the house, including a basement and a roomy attic. The two main floors of the house are decorated in a style to match the house itself: furniture is traditional in style and done in neutral shades, elegant curtains and original paintings add relief to the walls.

The first floor of the house is divided into a well-stocked library, a dining room converted to conference room, a master bedroom and bath, a large great room bare of furniture, a smaller den, and a kitchen area. The back porch is covered but the stairs lead down to a perfectly manicured formal garden. The upper floor is composed of three discretely sun proofed bedrooms and a large, unfurnished room. The doors leading to both the basement and attic are discretely tucked into corners and locked - neither of these areas are used.

The formal garden is done in the style of a formal English garden complete with a mini-hedge maze, a wide brick paved paths leading to a central fountain, and flowers that bloom not only year round but at night as well. Several of the old style gas lights that dot the Amptons in general can be found lighting the garden paths. It's clear that the place is designed for entertaining more than quiet repose however.
