"Oz" was born in rural Mississippi in the late 1930s under the name "Marcus Lehman." He belonged to a family of illiterate sharecroppers, and spent his early years working in fields alongside the rest of his family. While theoretically free, "Marcus" and his family were bound to the land through debt and the the threat of violence, working the same fields as their parents and grandparents before them. As a child he saw his father bowed under the crushing debt and shame that had been passed onto him by his father, and his father's father, in an endless cycle of poverty and injustice. He saw the landlord's agents, the general store manager, and the notable whites in the town blatantly manipulating his parent's illiteracy for their own ends, cheating them out of their meager earnings while all the while dressed in the pious airs of Christianity and "civilization." Needless to say, Marcus develped an enduring distaste for "white civilization" from early childhood, an adjective he came to rather liberally apply to such things as his "slave name" and the "emasculating slave religion" of his parents.

Not long after his 18th birthday Marcus had been in town picking up supplies when he'd come across a group of town boys harassing a girl and her tiny brother in an ally off the main street. Unusually large, and hardened from years of working outdoors, he'd given the boys a thrashing and sent them running, earning himself the double black mark of attacking white children and being seen getting a kiss from the grateful white girl. Assuming the girl, a maid in one of the promient houses, would take care of things for him, and half expecting some kind of gratitude from the townsfolk, he'd been genuinely surprised when the Klan came calling later that night. Marcus, his aged father, and even his mother were savagely beaten by the enraged Klansmen, who vented their indignation in even less pleasent ways on his two younger sisters to ensure that the family learned a lesson. He'd been half dead and listening to the Klansmen debating the merits of hanging him from a nearby tree when he'd prayed out to the gods of his homeland, vowing to sell his sould if they'd help him to escape and to one day get even.

Marcus attributes his embrace three years later to that moment. He'd been making his way towards relations in the more tolerant city of Atlanta, hoping for a new life, when he was attacked and embraced just outside the city. His Gangrel sire hailed from a similarly oppressed people, the original inhabitants of the region, and had found his plight and his will to live to be an intriguing combination.

Taking the name Okonkwo Zulu or "Oz" out of a piecemail combination of a more African name and the people who had produced his personal hero, I-Shaka, Oz the vampire ran with the Gangrel of Atlanta until his release, whereupon he utilized his Gangrel gifts to immediately return home and wreak his vengence upon the townsfolk and their descendents. His Gangrel "Beast" fed upon the anger he felt before death, making Oz an unusually aggressive and wrathful denizen of Atlanta.

Oz joined the Carthian Movement not long before Prince Duquette came to power, and has been a loyal supporter of his praxis ever since. Though no longer human, death served only to freeze many of his prejudices in place and he was pleased to see "one of his own" exerting hegemony over the extent of his new world. An admirer of the pre-colonial Zulu, Oz favors a centralized and quasi-militaristic court system, preferably one designed to help minorities and the more downtrodden Kindred and Clans. The Invictus, especially those of plantation breeding, irritate him to no end and have driven the high strung Gangrel dangerously close to frenzy on numerous occasions. He is much less concerned with the "bloodless" aspect of his Prince's policy. Oz runs with many of the Circle in the city, remembering his mortal vows and developing a loose belief based on a blending of African lore and the bits he has learned from Mankiller, who he very much admires. He has gradually begun to incorporate himself into the underworld gang scene in Atlanta as his suspicions of the Invictus and of the whites in government has waxed and waned, though the strong African American presence in the city mutes many of his anti-establishment impulses in that respect. --

Not long after the new year in 2007, Oz had begun to branch out, rising in status and familiarity with the Kindred of the city, when his suspicions were rekindled. It emerged that a faction of the Invictus, including older, established, white individuals, had been caught plotting to assasinate him and several other figures in the Court and the Carthian Movement, almost all of whom were black. Adding insult to injury, their apparent ringleader, [Jessica Vandercamp], had earlier taken to hanging out with the Carthians and assuring Oz that they were different and things had changed. In light of her actions, such words now color his impression of the invictus and renew racial suspicions tempered by improving relations with certain Kindred in the city.

Oz was destroyed in the 2007 St. Valentine's Day Massacre, an ambush arranged by Veronica Parks and the combined forces of the Invictus and the Lancea Sanctum. This massacre saw the destruction of his tempestuous lover, Prefect Khadija Carver, Prince Elijah DuQuette, and a large portion of the Carthian Movement and the Circle of the Crone. The battle resulted in the former Seneschal, Veronica Parks, taking Atlanta's praxis.
