Nuts & Bolts

Average Level of Resources for Residents: 2

The Area

North Las Vegas is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States, located in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The city was incorporated on May 16, 1946, and is known as the home of Nellis Air Force Base. Located in the desert southwest, in the Mojave Desert, North Las Vegas is north of Las Vegas and north of the unincorporated town of Sunrise Manor. None of the allure from the Las Vegas Strip extends to North Las Vegas. Instead of glittering lights and the sheen of luxury, there's the grimy layer of desert dust that covers every thing. The majority of people who work on the Strip live in South Las Vegas, leaving North Las Vegas to the residents of the Air Force Base and their families. This cases a severe racial dispairty with most of the white populous living north of the Strip and most of the Latino and Blacks living south of the Strip.

North Las Vegas is home to a variety of small chain restaurants, grocery stores and other average shopping experiences. Entertainment is limited to seedy strip clubs and cheap bars. At any given night patrons can find off-duty military at any establishment serving liquor or showing bare breasts; low funds, cheap liquor, big egos and high tempers usually give these places an air of "Enter at Your Own Risk."

Nellis

Allies Available: Bureaucracy

The Nellis Air Force Base and the area around it is a study in brown and grey. Brown dirt, brown grass, brown sand, grey aircraft hangers, grey asphalt, grey planes, grey houses. The center of the community is the Air Force Base; the people who live here either work there, are stationed there, or are family of someone who is. The majority of the residents of Nellis are white with a handful of black families, almost no Hispanics serve on the base or live in the area despite their overwhelming numbers in the city at large. Most of this is due to the generally acknowledged but unspoken belief that Hispanics are lazy at best and illegal at worst. For the citizens of Nellis there's nothing worse than polluting America, which is exactly what they believe to be happening with Mexican-Americans, because of this it's all-too-common for any one of darker complexions to be the victims of violence and harassment in and around Nellis. Most bartenders in this area are more than willing to look the other way if some good ol' boys want to teach a few wetbacks a lesson.

Benefits

  • Level 1: The one thing there’s never in short supply around an air force base and it’s local establishments are tools and space. You find that you can locate very specialty tools rather easily of decent quality, and more importantly can utilize them to your own ends, so long as you bring them back in a timely fashion. This gives you the benefit of performing any crafts rolls twice as fast (it costs 50% of the usual downtime cost).
  • Level 2: There’s a lot of traffic that goes into and out of an air force base. Not all of it happens to be military traffic. There’s more than a few civilians who work on bases, and more than a few local places for people to spend their money. As it turns out, there’s also places that one can send their people to learn from others who are exceptionally well trained and can learn through observation and chatting with off-duty sorts. You have direct access to individuals who can aid your retainers’ daily habits and practices; any Retainer merit you have for a human may have +1 Skill dot added to it, so long as it is in a Mental or Social skill, and may also gain +1 Merit dot. These bonuses are lost if your retainers no longer have access to these individuals (meaning you no longer have this level).

Sunrise Manor

Allies Available: Religion

Sunrise Manor isn't too far from Nellis Air Force Base but the community is radically different. In the 60's it was originally established as a commune for burgeoning hippies, but as the 60's turned into the 70's the hippies realized that free love doesn't pay the rent. Despite that rude awakening the residents of Sunrise Manor still hold on to their peace-minded roots. The community is one of the most welcoming and open minded in Las Vegas, however despite this it still stays predominately white simply due to the fact that even though housing is cheap, most ethnic citizens of Las Vegas still can't afford them - at least where ethnic means Hispanic, plenty of white-collar Asians and Indians make their homes here. Because of this open minded heritage the Sunrise Communities boasts metaphysical bookstores beside chapels and palm readers next to Buddhist temples.

Benefits
  • Level 1: Through community faith and influence within, you find that many of the calming exercises that people (of all faiths) perform can also work for your own beastial-tainted soul. Any degeneration check, or roll for derangement, you may make with +1 dice.
  • Level 2: Sunrise is a rather large community, with plenty of places for worship. There are the mainstream Christian places, but also a smattering of smaller, alternative or non-mainstream places to purchase items and books that one can find if they look closely enough. This is not necessarily a bad thing for those who are truly interested. You know that there is also a healthy trade in imbued objects and have a couple more contacts in it than others might. This allows you to utilize the “Locate “holy” or “magical” items for purchase or trade.” use once a week instead of once every two weeks.
