Assumptions @ game start

  • Explains that she loves her Requiem, finding her Sire Merrick much more interesting than she ever did her mortal parents and the Crone an intriguing branch of Kindred society and it's beliefs merrily concurrent to her own beliefs and motives. The fact that the Crone is matriarchal in nature suits her fancy as well, for she still believes herself better than everyone else; or soon to be better than them.
  • Nicolette's relationship with her sister Serianna covers a broad spectrum of interaction. While they never fail to have a public spat, in the middle of Elysium or wherever they are forced into close proximity, they are a singular dedicated force when accosted by an outside force, and even more behaved when their Sire is present.
  • Nicolette has formed a connection with Ivy Jane Carroll, and the pair own a small boutique in one of Carcosa's trendier neighborhoods. Several of Nicolette's own pieces can be viewed there, as well as those of other local artists; most of whom Nicole is on a first name basis with.

    • I am Nicolette Merrick, childe of Landon Merrick, of the Anu Del-Merriques, born and raised here in Carcosa and ((some accomplishment)). My sire's sire is Kyra Merrique, the Vala of Philadelphia. ((Some distinguished accomplishment)) and ((reserved for your king)).

Mortal Life

Nicole & Seri, Pre Teen

Nicolette was wrapped warmly in a blanket, nearly back to sleep from the exhaustion of being born, when perhaps the worst thing that has ever happened to her occurred; her baby sister Serianna came bursting into the world kicking and screaming, a habit that would continue throughout the girl's lives. Nicole willingly shared very few things with her baby sister Seri, and aside from their silky blonde hair, a snobby upper-middle class upbringing, and continuous fighting over who encroached on the other, the sisters were nearly polar opposites in personality and goal. Nicole enjoyed being creative, listening to nature and just enjoying the quiet, which Seri did her best to make sure that Nicole found no reprieve. Nicole avoided Seri as much as she could, but it didn't take her long to realize that the children of the neighborhood, their classmates, and their parents offered little worthy competition.

Nicole wasn't nearly as eager to be as vicious as her sister Seri, but she knew that if someone had wronged her (actually or some imagined offense) there was no individual better than Seri at helping her get pay-back. Nicole seemed sweet enough that the authority figures in the girls lives paid her very little attention, and arming that with Seri brilliant means of misdirection they were able to cause wanton havoc at King of Glory Methodist Church and school for the entire thirteen years it took for the school to graduate the girls and push them out the door. Nicole enjoyed more than anything else her private art lessons. In the beginning it was an easy way to get away from Seri and spend more time with their mother. Their mother gladly accepted the company of Nicole, as it was a nice reprieve for their father to not have to listen to the continuous fighting of the sisters. Both girls were often flaunted and compared to their parent's friend's children, because their parents ran in well educated and wealthy circles where such things were done with beautiful and talented children; but none were so talented as Nicole when it came to the arts, and their mother did not hesitate to bore guests with every piece of work she had ever done.

Most of their scuffles ended quickly, either forced by some common enemy or the punishments of their parents; though Nicole always used her soft demeanor to spare their father's overbearing wrath. Nicole was the first born, she'd be given the opportunity to set the bar for all things in the life of the sisters, and that wasn't going to change when their father gave them permission to start dating. Their father gave Nicole permission, he didn't say anything about Seri, but Nicole knew better. Seri had been about drawing the attention of every boy who wanted a little excitement. This time Nicole wasn't going to let Seri win. Nicole had been flirting with Kevin Zumwalt since they were in grade school together. Nicole accused Seri of only liking Kevin because he was several years their senior and was an adorned athletic star. Nicole didn't think it was fair that Seri manipulated Kevin into inviting Seri to the Valentine's Sweetheart dance, and she wasn't going to let that happen for the prom as well. Nicole knew Seri would try to sabotage her someway, but she realized just how much Kevin meant to Seri by the fanatical and almost desperate means that Seri went through to prevent Kevin escorting her that night. Nicole took this opportunity to pay her sister back, because until this point in their lives, Seri has never given her a real weapon to use. She didn't love Kevin, but she was going to pretend to that night.

Like most religious schools, the after-prom was a joke. Kevin and Nicole wouldn't be going to something so juvenile. Hoping from party to party and avoiding road blocks and police right and left Kevin and Nicole made their rounds to all the important places and all the beautiful people. It was finally 2 A.M. when they decided to call it a night. The intentions of the two at this point were obvious. They were young, drunk, and horny. Getting back to Kevin's place as quick as possibly as the only objective, but the large willow tree just at the entrance to Kevin's drive had other plans. Kevin was ejected from the car, and if for some 'unknown' reason Nicole wouldn't have had her head lowered into the middle console area, she would have been as well. Kevin died that night, from the wounds inflicted to his limbs as he was forced through the glass and the injury to his neck and head. Nicole left the hospital a few days later, with nothing more than several bruises. But her sisters hatred and wishes that Nicole was dead instead of Kevin would be a scar that Nicole would carry with her always after that night.

From that point on Seri made Nicole miserable, and the simple fact that Nicole was still alive made life the same for Seri. It wasn't hard for Seri to drive all of Nicole friends away. Games, threats, their parent's shame, and in some cases torture of Nicole closest friends, left Nicole with nothing more than her guilt ridden thoughts to keep her company. After a time Nicole tried to allow another boy back into her life, but Seri had become talented in seducing them away, chasing them off, or causing so much embarrassment that they fled on their own. Every job or intership that Nicole was prospected for was swept away from her by Seri's callous manipulation. It was this 'game' that the girls were playing that would get out of hand, bringing them to the attention of something far more wicked, calculating, and corrupting.

They had just celebrated their twenty-first birthday when they found a real reprieve from each others grasp. The club and bar scene made it easy for them to escape one another, but it also led to Seri's most dangerous mistake. Seri was infuriated that Nicole was happy, happy every time they saw that man at the same bars and clubs. He wasn't always there, but Seri knew that's why Nicole wanted to go to that club. If she didn't see Ryan Fairmonte there she would be ready to leave, or just seem bored; but when he was there Seri found Nicole to be annoyingly flirtatious and joyful. Seri couldn't threaten or manipulate this man away, he proved to be far to ignorant to realize exactly what is was Seri was doing. When force had failed, seduction proved to be equally useless; which caused her to become even more hostile and angry, since it was the approach she least preferred to use but until then had always been a sure thing.

Seri was loosing patience and was trying not to fall back on her usual methods of torment. She knew from looking back on her last few 'victims' that she was getting dangerously close to crossing the line, but what line she wasn't exactly sure. Granted, she only noticed after the fact, how close she was to doing something truly horrible. Ryan Fairmonte was trouble, he was head over heals for Nicole, but Seri couldn't let Nicole be happy if she herself wasn't; so this had to be stopped. It was only time before Seri managed to get Eric away from prying eyes and ears and started tormenting him. Unfortunately for Ryan, he displayed too much resolve and adoration to be swayed from Nicole. Seri, in her anger, snapped and killed him.

Seri's actions weren't nearly as secluded and private as she had thought while she scurried about trying to decide how she would dispose of the body and the evidence. In her blood rage she found the first solution that presented itself, the log axe that was leaning against the back shed, that would work nicely. Ryan was far to big for Seri to carry him herself, but she could manage smaller pieces. Seri hacked Ryan into several smaller pieces, putting him in a box and attempted to burn him out of existence. As she lite the blaze she heard an unfamiliar rustle at the edge of the property, and for some reason she instantly felt uncomfortable. In ending Ryan's life she had sealed the fate of her and her sister, she just didn't know it. Seri never believed in monsters, but that was a mistake, because Landon Merrick believed in her.

Requiem

1975 - 1978

1975, October 1: Are you afraid, afraid of the truth, in the mirror staring back at you. The image is cracked, but so is the view. Landon’s words were barely audible over the gasps the girl was taking to try to breathe. He was holding her firmly around the neck, lifting her off the ground in front of the full body mirror so she could watch her fate. Such a strange path of events that had led to this young woman’s current situation, but like most things in life, it was entirely beyond her control. A smile slowly flickered across Landon’s lips as he thought of an old saying he actually hadn’t heard in years, 'nothing matters so much as blood.' A family heirloom signifying the importance for trusting and relying on your family, yet in all his decades Landon had come to discover the perverse irony of that saying. Nothing matters so much as blood, he was going to take all of hers, just as he had her sister who was lying on the bed behind them, and by giving her his blood he’d make them his family; because nothing matters so much as blood.

Serianna remembers her embrace, rather well for all that conspired, and is still bitter that her sister is older than her, both in their mortal lives, and in their requiem.
