The Brother's History
Little is known about the Nosferatu calling himself "Brother Mordecai" before he showed up in the early 1940s in Atlanta. His admittedly unnerving demeanor meant that not too many Kindred were interested in lengthy conversations about such trivial things as his past, and since he seemed quite content to not dwell on it and try to make a place for himself, it wasnt much of an issue. He met several Kindred in the city and was generally accepted as being a nice enough, if somewhat weird and reclusive, member of society and the Lancea Sanctum.
The Bishop Jacques DuPont did not share in this feeling, however. He publicly declared Mordecai to be a heretic, and made it a personal mission statement to purge him from the city. No one was really certain what the problem was (since Mordecai seemed a fair bit nicer and better representative of the Sanctified at times then the hardliner Bishop), but listening to DuPont the Nosferatu was a member of a heretical cult which was dangerous to the stability of the city. After only a scarce couple of years in Atlanta, Mordecai disappeared. No one really questioned it (they knew who was responsible), and no one really cared. Another neonate nomad who couldnt pass muster.
In the mid 1970s Mordecai woke from torpor and made his way back into the city. He did not seek out revenge against his assailant (though he did not make much of a secret who it was), but rather seemed content to stay as far away from the troubles of the city as he could. He fed on the outskirts of Five Points and Sylvan Hills, doing his best not to step on anyone's toes, and keep the hell out of the Bishop's way. Eventually DuPont got his scent again and begin tracking him down, and it was only 5 years after he awoke that he disappeared again. Again, few questioned what happened, and few remembered his passing with much emotion past the thought that the Bishop was a bit overzealous in policing what was admittedly the small flock he had.
The Modern Story
In early 2008, Mordecai awoke again. Thirty years of nightmares weighed on his mind and echoed in his soul, but he had a new chance - DuPont was dead. Without any direct enemies in the city, and armed with the patience of his years, Mordecai began to truly establish himself in the city for the first time in his history. He made an early decision to not follow any Bishop, priest, or other superfluous position that the Sanctified might try to create. He was not their enemy, but neither was he their vassal. The Reverend Virgil Tollison had preached that the faithful were Brothers and Sisters, and that they should exist as equals in their curse, in their temptation of humanity, and the hidebound rites and rituals of the traditional Church serves only to distract from this. This was the heresy that DuPont saw, and that Mordecai was torpored for twice - the belief that the existing structure was wrong, and that the faithful needed to go back to the roots of their faith.
Appearance
Mordecai is not a bad looking guy, perhaps even ruggedly good looking in his own way. His curse affects him on a deep level, though, and any who spend time with him will realize that beneath his very mundane surface lurks something dark, and something hungry. The Beast is tangible to those that spend too much time with him, the second half of every vampire that threatens to come out. Mordecai's flesh appears to be a thin facade, and whenever anyone catches him out of the corner of his eye, they see what lurks beneath.
Besides that he's a relatively simple white male in his mid 20s. He has Green eyes and somewhat long, wavy black hair. His skin is weathered from what was probably a lifetime spent outdoors, and his voice has the intoxicatingly smooth accent of Alabama. He speaks eloquently and educatedly, and while he sometimes slips into anachronisms and colloquialisms, it's obvious that he has spent a fair amount of time in formal learning.
