The Merry Widow

Location: Hive Ward (Ecclesia)     Predatory Taint: +1     Exterior Channel: Parkwood Avenue

Atmosphere: Calm
This is a neutral environment. It is not particularly active but not especially lethargic either. It could swing toward aggression or alarm when given significant impetus, but it remains steady until something pushes it in either direction. Behavior and responses are reasonable, and outsiders are judged on their actions and not their familiarity.

Description

'The Merry Widow’ is a small (40m long) ‘casino-yacht’ usually found moored in the harbour, near the casino district, where Paradigm Plaza and Hive Ward meet in Ecclesia. While it is technically mobile, power couplings and stability measures means that the craft is not easy moved (such as in an emergency) without a full day or two’s preparation preparing the craft.

The Rules:

As well as the standard rules of etiquette for casinos and nightclubs, The Merry Widow has one unspoken rule that the kine of the underworld understand all to well. "Don't bring your troubles to the Widow." Madam Wu does not tolerate heat brought upon the casino. Any trouble caused will be quietly taken care of... as will the offenders.

For Kindred, hunting is strictly forbidden on the boat. However ‘Madam Lily’ will turn a blind eye to taking the odd patron off-board to feed, providing the patron a) was not a ‘whale’ on a big losing streak and b) is not harmed. Business is business. Any failure to follow these and the other basic rules of Elysia will cause the Casino’s doormen to quickly, but politely, escort the offender off-ship and ‘Madam Lily’ will promptly send the offender a bill (in the form of a boon requirement).

Upper Deck

The upper deck contains the wheelhouse / office (A) and bar / dance floor area (B).

A: The wheelhouse / office: This area is off-limits and guarded by one of Johnny Cho's security team. From there the day to day running of the business is managed. It is also where the boat is piloted from, should it need to be moved.

B: The Widow's Walk Lounge. This area serves, depending upon the time of day, as both a lounge / bar and a small restaurant. It is decorated in a tasteful fusion of art deco and Chinese influences. Large windows surround this level of the boat, giving the patrons a panoramic view of the city. Tables are brought out and set up twice a day to allow a buffet to be served. The music played / piped in is usually just loud enoug to drown out the din of the casino below, but quiet enough to allow for conversation.

One interesting feature is the roof above the dance floor. It is retractable and often opened up on clear nights to allow the dancers to be able to look up at the stars. It is rumored that one nomad had the "pleasure" here of greeting the sun in the same manner after crossing the Widow in her den.

Middle Deck

The middle deck contains the casino area (C) and kitchen / bar and storage areas (D)

C: The Merry Widow Casino The casino is rather simple and subdued compared to other casinos along the strip - somewhat more geared to serious gamblers than the run-of-the-mill tourist. Twentry-four slot machines, twenty-four video poker machines, 3 large hold 'em tables, 3 large roulette stations, and 8 blackjack stations round out the mix. The odds here are marginally better than at others casinos, but Lily doesn't publically advertise that. Instead, she uses it to quietly attract more serious gamblers, making up the difference on the back-end with the sale of premium alcohols and illicit Cuban cigars.

D: Storage and Dumbwaiter.

Lower Deck

The lower deck contains a private area not accessible from this level (E), the Senate Room (F), and the Elysium lounge, as well as the engine and maintenance area. The entire area is off-limits to any other than acknowledged kindred, there personal guests, and staff. This area is soundproofed from the casino upstairs.

G: The Lounge: The lounge is tastefully subdued in comparison to the rest of the ship. The entire room is furnished and designed to revolve around single thing - comfort for the kindred, away from the prying eyes of the kine. Simple, yet tasteful couches with rich fabrics for seating, and card and chess table in the other corner for actual wit competition. Although the stakes here are bit higher, consisting usually of wheat or boons, the bets for simple money aren't frowned upon.

F: Senate Room: Theatre-seating for 44, facing a central podium, this room is used almost exclusively for meetings – mostly Carthian. It’s two doors are locked and secured when not in use. However, ‘Madam Lily’ has been known to make it available to other groups when called upon, and not above offering it to other Covenants for a small price. In fact, back in the days of the Interfectors, it has been used to hold official Courts on the rare occasion, when safety and secrecy was an issue. The room is decorated in a distinctive Greco-Roman style with the one modern touch being a high-tech A-V set-up, with twin 8’ screens flanking the podium. The seating is set up so that those of higher standing sit in the more spacious area close to the podium, whereas the ‘rabble’ are seated in the more cramped rear of the room.
