Life
Leticia Morales (or Letty as know by her friends) was born July 6 1976 to Carlos and Guadalupe Morales. She is one of four children. Leticia has two older sisters and a brother. She was born in a traditional Catholic Family in, an uncommon, upper class family in Mexico. She grew up in a city just outside of Mexico City in a large hacienda. Her father was owner of several resorts in Acapulco and Cancun and the family lived well. While her sibling lavished in their family's wealth, Letty tended to be introverted and modest even though she was very beautiful. As she became older she became interested in Mayan culture. In particular Mayan gods and godesses. Her family didnt very much approve , however they were not the most devote of Catholics and didnt pay much attention to her interest. She was also interested in sports like soccer and volleyball. She also partcipated in many cultural dances and found a great love of folk dancing in her culture.
It was shortly after her 18th brithday that her parents died in a car accident. She became despondent and to cope she threw herself into her studies. With her older siblings running the family's businesses she devoted herself to studying more about the Mayan culture and mythology. She graduated ahead of schedule with a degree in Anthropology focusing on mythology and turned around to travel to the States to get her masters degree in the same field.
It was at this time she met and married a man by the name of Taylor Prescott. They met in classes at the University of Colorado in Denver. It was a whirlwind romance that was soon fated to end. One day she came home early from classes to find Taylor in bed with another woman. Shortly after her graduation her divorce was final. It was soon after that that her siblings decided to sell the family businesses, split the profits amongst the family members and go their separate ways. This was a rough time in Letty's life and not finding the answers she needed at church she turned to paganism. At a group function she met a man by the name of Fernando Perez and they hit it off. She found herself strangely attracted to him and drawn to his presence even though he was nowhere around. They became close friends and did many activities togther. He taught her about many of the rituals and thoughts and feelings he had about the gods he believed in. He even helped with some of her lesson plans for her job as a professor at a local junior college. She drank up every word and continued to be obsessed with him.
Embrace
It was on the night of her 25th birthday that her world would change. Fernando and Letty had a private dinner at his place and in her mind were going to move to the next level. Little did she know that her idea of life changing and his were completely different. Fernando embraced her that night and when she regained her senses she was there in his arms with him smiling a fanged smile at her. She tried to run but he was too quick and forced her to stay. It was the start of her new education. She eventually settled into her undead life and she found herself starngely at odds with this new life. She was froced to learn to protect her self with weapons and her gifts. something she had never had to do before. A few months later Fernando introduced him to his covenant the Circle of the Crone. She was accepted as a member of the chorus and after a couple of years of devotion and service to the Circle was allowed to partake of the most sacred of gifts. Cruac. Her mentor through it all was Fernando and he taught her many things about the blood magic although allowing her to practice only a few of the rituals.
Atlanta
She continued to teach evening and correspondence classes throughout this whole new change and eventually got the recognition of Atlanta University (two years prior to the start of our chronicle) who offered her a position in their Anthropology and International Studies departments. Fernando feeling it was time to set her free allowed her to leave. He himself moved to Dallas. It wasnt long before she settled into the city and became a quiet member of the Acolytes in the city making her presence known to Hierophant Mankiller and the others offering her services and knowledge to them.
The Danse Macabre in Atlanta
In recent months Leticia has seldom been heard from. This is mainly due to her class schedule and sheer amount of grading that she has had in the Fall Semester At Atlanta U. The end of the semester brings als the start of her sabatical and she has looked forward to the time off. During this time she still didnt know many people in the city and very distrustful of anyone especially men. Mortal or Kindred. She did however befriend two homeless people. One of whom was pregnant. Ix Chel, goddess of the earth and moon, matroness of childbirth, called to her to help them by providing them a hotel room to stay in. Little did she know what was to happen.
The two homeless turned out to be ghouls, or so she was thinking after a few comments by the homeless people. She was to meet them for they had asked to speak with her in private. She called Jacob Pfeiffer, Mehket, of the Ordo Dracul, another professor and someone she trusted, to ask him what she should do. It was then she had her fears confirmed and she moved to see if they could be bound to her and/or Jacob if nothing else for the safety of the child.
It wasnt until the next night she would see the homeless people again for the last time. She also at that time had enlisted the help of fellow Acolyte Evan Iskander, Gangrel, to help her with the couple seing as how the male homeless man had mentioned Evan as someone he liked. Upon Evan and Leticia's arrival to the park they found the couple being threatened by Preacher. Leticia put herself between Preacher and the couple allowing them to get away with Jacob. Preacher declared a strike two on Leticia and left. Later Evan and Leticia would call Jacob to see if they could help be he refused their offer.
It wasnt until later that she would find out Jacob was attacked and torped. Upon his phone call she went to his side, distraught with guilt and worry. It is at this point she let her hard exterior shell melt away and allow Jacob into her life. Vowing to always protect him as best she can, she finds a true friend in Jacob.
It is after this many different things happen to Leticia. She is in the process of helping the Daeva get organized and better acquainted. She is also looking to open a coffee lounge to feature Kindred artwork and have a place for Kindred to perform if so desired. She also has recently found out her Ex Husband is a kindred by the hand of the woman who she caught him cheating with, although now her Ex and her Sire are lovers. She has also taken on a mentor who in mortal life was a member of the Army Special Forces.
The Coven Brujeria
Upon coming to Atlanta she searched and found a group of pagans called the Brujeria. They were a more organized and established group than she had experienced in Denver. The Brujeria welcomed her with open arms into the group and Letty's apparent knowledge of things spirtual proved to draw more and more members to the group and to her. The group is private ony seeing each other in non-scoial situations and only calling each on the phone by diffent names. Eventually Leticia's family gifts would influence the group to consider her the Mother Bruja. Even though she knows that they group is full of misconeceptions she would never consider her position in the group as anything other than a way to sway them and feed from them when in need.
Brujeria Defined
Brujeria (also brujaria) is Spanish witchcraft or witchery.
Both men and women can be witches, brujos and brujas respectively. Brujos is the plural term that can mean either a group of male witches or both male and female witches. The female witch is considered the most powerful, and traditional brujos believe that the sacred bloodline or spiritual bloodline is passed down by the female (matriarchal lineage). This means that the line is inherited from a female but ends with a male.
Beliefs vary between traditional and modern brujos. Traditional brujos hold core beliefs that are similar to or identical to the witchery around the world. Modern brujos are diverse and can resemble faith healers, be shamans, spiritualists, or pagan.
The brujos from Spain are either Christian or pagan-witches. The first group use folk magic and combine it with Catholic ritual and beliefs. This includes priests and nuns. The latter group are not Christian and either practice secretly or veil their practices under Catholic ones. Non-Christian brujeria from Spain is predominantly influenced by the ancients, either Greco-Roman, Celtic, or Phoenician. This latter group does not tend to use folk magic, but instead practices what is commonly known as traditional witchcraft.
Practices are greatly diverse and are dependent upon the locale and the form of brujaria. Ancient forms tend to reflect the religions of the indigenous cultures, whilst modern forms tend to be syncretic and use the current dominant religion (usually Catholic).
The most well known practices are similar to English witchcraft: spells (hechizos), charms, amulets, divination, and use of plants (usually herbs). Other practices might include phenomena similar with traditional English witchcraft; namely shapeshifting, glamoury and hedgeriding. Brujos pagano (pagan-witches) might participate in ritual or ceremonial ecstacies. (Excerpts from http://shadowthreadwitch.com )
