Kingsway (Nickname: Chalk Row)

Fragmentation

The Area

A part of Carcosa still partially burned in places from the old riots, Kingsway is where you go if you’re looking for chalk lines. In some stretches of this area, you could swear that everything was painted in a shade of gray and brown – a tint to represent just how unclean and desolate this part of town is.

In every city, there is a place that you don’t go. Carcosa is a city too large for it’s own good, and several of these places have cropped up. Kingsway is not as violent and dangerous as some of the other areas of the city but that’s no consolation to the residents of the area. Gang violence explodes at random intervals, then some of the hapless citizens try to suppress it by attempting interventions. This only seems to fuel the fire, and every so often, a family who “only wanted to help” finds themselves down a son or daughter.

You can regularly find news vans trolling the area, but only during the daytime and early evening. Chalk Row didn’t get that nickname for no reason. Ingrained in the memory of most journalists, still, is the story of Stephen MacCullen. MacCullen tried to spearhead a movement into the clean-up by using his influence with the local news outlets. For his trouble, he was awarded a crude street-justice reminder of just who runs certain areas of the city: MacCullen was abducted by one of the local gangs, then video taped as a steamroller was utilized to pulverize the lower half of his body.

After that, no one bothered Kingsway in that way again, and rumors have cropped up that by the gang’s ballsy move, they paved the way into the pocket of some of the more influential criminal element always looking for more good soldiers.
