My parents were originally from Norway, they came over in 1930. They didn't have it too bad after the Great War, but they just thought they might find a good life here in the States. Too many Italians in New York for them so they decided to book it on over to San Francisco where I was born in 1931. My father worked at the docks, he was fortunate that the foreman was also Norwegian and was a bit more kind to fellow countrymen when it came to getting jobs during the depression. By the time the war had started the Navy had come to my dad and his buddies, had something to do with ensuring the production of new ships for the war effort. Not really sure what he did, but he go his citizenship from it and we didn't have to worry much from there.
I was 11 when the Japs attacked us, I began to help out at the docks a bit. Anders, the foreman, was all for having me around the docks learning a few things. Nothing too big, but running for tools and errands for people. This was where I initially got my experience in inspection. Well, maybe not experience. Just set the ground work to get into construction. As much as college seemed like a nice thing, family trade was with your hands so I stuck through works at the docks, but eventually got some better pay working construction. The work wasn't too bad, especially when I started working for some independent contractors while I started doing building inspections. That was when I got grabbed.
Carson may not be the most sociable type, but he's damn sharp. Lucky to have him as my sire and to train me all these years. If there's anyone that's reason to not overlook us Gangrel for our smarts it's him. Beginnings weren't much to note on. Learning the basics, joining the Ordo Dracul and trying to find my place. Didn't really take too long as I learned a lot from Carson, I think he already expected me to pursue becoming. Just turned out I might actually be fit for the job. I'm not sure if it was Carson that thought of it first when he embraced me or if it was a coincidence, but doing building inspections is a fantastic way to get into places to investigate for nests. Carson doesn't let it on too much, but I think that's what his idea was from the beginning.
Was a hard transition to make doing construction and building inspections and start doing some actual science. Carson was good with it, but I still needed to find some sort of specialty. For some reason I hit it off with Jessep Windhelm when he was around for the year's caucus. Guy had some really cool ideas, worked with a bit of medical stuff which I had zero knowledge of. After that point I started working with him a bit, trying to develop my own means of research. Got some overall learning from Jessep to coincide with learning about the Nests from Carson. Finally in the '70s I found my staying research, metaphysical meme transmission of vitae. Based it off some theory from a Brit, but it works and has held up since. Quickly lead me to my first chrysalis.
Since then I've advanced the theory further and have successfully used it to advance myself. Unfortunately things haven't gone too well for Carson and the Prince, had to spend some time protecting my mind. Not that I have anything against Roth, but for both mine and Carson's good it's probably better if I don't have anyone poking around my mind. It's gotten me thinking that all Guardians should do it as well, there's a need to be as secure as possible, even from that sort of intrusion.
Eventually my research advanced to the point where I was ready to present at the Caucus. After advancing myself a couple times before this, it was a bit overdue. Unfortunately Carson wasn't able to check it out, but he seemed supportive... in his own way. After Matthews got torn apart, have to say that it made me a bit nervous. Once I got up there it seemed to go pretty well, my inexperience in presenting showed, but the properties of the metaphysical meme transmission of vitae in relation to the Coils, Spoiling (thanks to Matthews) and the role Crucibles play in them. I don't think Quinn appreciated my comment about how I thought the Caucus went well. Heh, won't hurt him to cut down on some of those comments he made to me beforehand. Hopefully that was a humbling experience for him. Nevermind that, how it went somewhat began to make me think about my Sworn future a bit more, just exactly where I will end up. Regardless, Mysteries were out.
The whole buzz of Las Vegas had everyone going in the Order for a multitude of reasons, but not many seemed to eager to pack up and go. Carson definitely wanted and needed someone to go check out what sort of Nests are there. Haven't been out of San Francisco, should take this chance. Might give me a chance to improve my research a bit and set a pace to take the next step in the Order. Was a bit surprising to find both Warrens and Matthews already around when I arrived. It was good, though. Matthews had a better way with words so he could handle that. Despite instantly getting to some work and scouting for some Nests, some folks around these parts aren't too bad, won't have to be totally reclusive.
