Invictus

“Hear me, my kindred,
and know again what we knew already,
once, all those nights ago:
That our city is built of blood and walled in bone.
That our castle is loyalty and our arms, traditions.
That no enemy can breach our keep
so long as we know, as we once knew,
that power is ours unless we surrender it.
And our enemies look so much like our friends.”

The Invictus is the landed aristocracy of the Damned. An elitist organization at its core, the Invictus teaches that power is everything and those who gain power deserve it most: those with the greatest skill, the greatest ambition, and overall, the greatest claim to leadership. The Invictus appeals far more to elder Kindred than to neonates, and the covenant believes that age and experience are worth far more than anything youth might offer. The so-called First Estate claims to have created most of the common titles and ranks in the modern nights, especially the title of Prince. The Invictus clearly thinks in terms of aristocracy, and like any aristocracy, it suffers in disorder. Therefore, the Invictus strives to maintain order among the Damned and seeks to uphold the laws of the Kindred to the fullest extent. The most frightening aspect of the Invictus is that the covenant might be right: if they don't hold the power of the Kindred, then who will? Perhaps the long history of Invictus tyranny exists because it's the only way to rule the Damned.

Benefit: Members of the Invictus benefit from their league of friends and the resources of the group as a whole. This allows players of Invictus characters to purchase the Herd, Mentor, Resources and Retainer Merits for substantially fewer experience points than players of other Kindred do.

Covenant Ascendancy Information

Ascendant Invictus find it easier to move about and handle the "burdens" of their responsibility more, which is represented in two seperate fashions. First, the Invictus gains the benefit from increased sway over local law enforcement agencies and media outlets, which is represented by Law & Enforcement and Media Allies 1. Secondly, Invictus, being more firmly seated and in control, gain the ability for one free Assets Check or Paper Trails Cover-up per month, which uses Intelligence + Investigation rather than the standard Allies roll (with positive dice modifiers equal to the user's Invictus Covenant Status).

Current Faction Views

The Invictus have been a presence in Atlanta for an exceedingly long time, and have seen their power rise and fall at fairly regular cycles. And lately it seems like that power has been rising again. With the Invictus having just taken Praxis via Bridget Connelly and the Inner Circle disbanded every thing seems as it should be for this august covenant.

Views of the other Covenants

Mini_carthian.png
Carthian Movement: After the Invictus overthrew the Carthian-led regime, the Invictus was marginally worried it might return and bring violence to the mostly-bloodless coup. Thus, the Invictus took matters into it's own hands. It watched while the Carthians turned on itself and casually slid up to the side of the most useful, disenfranchised members and landed one of the most (arguably) powerful elders in the city in the disposed prince Anthony Anderson, and all but caused the (arguably) second-most in the Carthians, Clementine Beaumont, to self-destruct. Thus, the Invictus considers the Carthian Movement, currently, to be not much of a threat and have granted one of their members, Jerry Williams a chance to redeem the covenant in the eyes of the city.
Mini_crone.png
Circle of the Crone: The Acolytes have a operose time of it as of late with the Invictus. After the Invictus watched the near-meltdown of the Circle of the Crone leadership and learned of Marissa Carisle's return from her brief period in the eclipse, they stayed on the sidelines to watch and see if the Crone could pull their ranks together to be something of a political threat. However, that never came to coalesce and the Invictus itself is non-committal on if the Circle of the Crone is worth the effort of signing an alliance when they very noticably have major problems within their ranks. Thus, the Invictus sits back and waits to see what will come of the power struggles within the pagan sect.
Mini_lancea.png
Lancea Sanctum: The Sanctified are supposed to be the Invictus' allies, but in truth the Invictus consider the Lancea Sanctum nothing more than hanger-ons. Lip-service keeps the religious covenant happy and the Invictus takes the time to bother just in-case by some grace of God the Lancea Sanctum actually amounts to something, someday.
Mini_ordo.png
Ordo Dracul: The Ordo Dracul are sufferring from a very distinct lack of membership. The Invictus doesn't seem to mind either way, and has not feelings to the positive or the negative concerning the sect as a whole. That being said, there are individual members of the Invictus who are not on good terms at all with the entire covenant, and others who enjoy dealing with it almost exclusively. If one were to ask the Invictus their collective opinion on the Dragons, though, they'd probably just as soon give you a non-committal answer. They view the Dragons as being "just there".
Mini_unaligned.png
Unaligned: Nomads and Unaligned kindred cause trouble. They don't care for hunting rights, the city's rules, or the Masquerade. Even more with the Invictus in charge now, they find a distaste for the Unaligned. If this group had it difficult before, they're even more likely to have it difficult now. If nomads and unaligned feel safe in Atlanta, the Invictus isn't really doing it's job.
