The Hound is the Prince's assassin, enforcer, and chief leg-breaker all rolled into one. Pure and simple, the Hound is a thug and a killer (though sometimes not necessarily a thug AND a killer, there have been plenty of well-spoken death dealers in history), the executioner, the cold, merciless foe that stalks kindred lawbreakers and brings them to justice. The Hound doesn't negotiate, doesn't talk, doesn't waste her time with words - she kills, or, if you're very lucky, she beats the hell out of you and leaves you to reflect on what you did wrong as your body knits back together. The Hound when acting in their capacity is not a diplomat or a social butterfly. The Hound a good amount of the time is a rabid dog that the Prince keeps on a leash, and every now and again someone earns his displeasure and gets to meet her face-to-face. Those who survive the meeting either shape up or don't get a second chance to reject the Prince's mercy.

In some instances, the Hound and the Sheriff are at odds due to their overlapping responsibilities. In other cities, the two are combined into a single position. While the Hound might be asked to carry out the official and public chastisement of a lawbreaker, that duty more often falls to the Sheriff. The Hound is normally employed when the Prince wishes to skip over normal (and possibly public) procedure

Five Things a Hound May Do

• Question unacknowledged Kindred as to their intentions in the city
• Prevent a mouthy nomad from gaining Acknowledgement
• Arrange for an unacknowledged Kindred to casually "disappear" before they meet the Prince
• Organize and lead a coterie to hunt down a bloodhunted Kindred
• Accept bribery to "make life rough" for a particular Kindred

When taken by a Player Character this position conveys a weekly Experience Bonus. This Bonus is given at the Storyteller discretion and is only awarded during weeks in which the character is active and pursues it’s duties.
