When the elite of Carcosa started flocking to Hawthorn Point to get away from the plague the available real estate was quickly bought up. Now it takes an act of God (that is, someone dies) or some high level string pulling to get a plot of land to build a house. So those who just "have to" live on the Island, came to a creative solution during the last ten years. They started building houses on the water on the far East side, in Pepperbrook - which became one of two legally sanctioned areas for such.

The Landing caters to the rich who haven’t been rich long enough to have inherited land on Hawthorne Point but desire the prestige of living on the island. Well kept wooden docks stretch out like fingers across the bay, lit by creative nautically styled lanterns and dotted with elegant wrought iron park benches. Almost every slip is taken up by a yacht, or even houseboats closer to shore, and it’s becoming almost as difficult to find a place on the water as it is on land.

It’s very evident that the seafaring vessels are as much for prestige as function however as observers can easily note that some don’t move for months at a time, if not years. The quiet glow from window panes and the occasional louder jolts of music from stationary floating houses gives evidence to the newest trend of young money buying in and celebrating their fortune on the water.
