Description

Fremont Street was the original Strip, way back before the casino resorts started taking over. For a while it fell into disrepair, a sort of tawdry cousin of the new, fresh Strip until someone had the bright idea to take that tawdry, antiquated character and turn it into a show. Now with a new front in the way of the Fremont Street Experience the area once more draws tourists. The once tawdry is showcased as "vintage" or "original" Las Vegas and people pay good money to see old neon. Bars and restaurants with bars crowd both sides of the street, welcoming people to open air patios. People mingle in large groups and gossip flows freely, just like the booze. The atmosphere is loud, with ribald laughter punctuating the air as people forget their worries with 2 dollar shots. The unwary traveler can find himself caught up in the crowd, which sometimes moves like a riptide when the canopy goes dark and the light show begins. It's this lighted canopy that most modern tourists come to see, touted as the Fremont Street Experience it involves a nightly turning off of the Casino lights and a "light show" on the arched screen that runs the length of the pedestrian street.
