Fencing Rules
These rules are for Sport Foil Fencing only. Epee, Rapier and Saber are not taken into account with these rules.
Each opponent rolls Dex + Weaponry -1 (for targeting). This is considered a touch attack and causes no damage.
- Dueling foils cannot do any significant damage, as they are flexible rather then rigid. They bend when they strike an opponent, causing mild bruising at best.
If either opponent gains of 2 or more successes above their opponent, they score a point.
Traditionally a match lasts to 5 points, although duelists are more then free to change the number of points they play to.
Example Match
John and Susie have decided to have a quick fencing match to 2 points. The each don their equipment and take to the mat.
On the first round, John gets 2 successes and Susie gets 3. Neither beat the other by 2 or more, so the match continues 0-0.
- Susie and John advance down the mat, feinting blows and beating. Susie makes a thrust, but John parries and ripostes. Susie parries the blow in turn.
On the second round, John gets 3 successes and Susie gets 1. John gets one point, and the match is now 1-0.
- Heading the other direction on the mat now, John strikes. Susie attempts to parry and riposte in a quick move, but John's ready for her and disengages around her parry, landing a touch. One point for him.
On the third round, John gets 2 successes and Susie fails her roll. John scores a 2nd point to win the match.
- The pair return to their starting positions and take their stance. The round begins again with a quick thrust out of the gates from John. Susie is wholly unready and her parry comes to late. John grins and gloats incessantly .
