Mortal Life

Fei-Lin Thorne was born to Allan Thorne and Da Qiao on Dec 25, 1953. Her mother was from North Korea. She fled North Korea during the Korean War to escape religious persecution for being Christian. Allan, an officer in the military, was among those helping get some of the refugees out when he met Qiao. He was eventually called back home after being injured and arranged for Qiao to come with him. They married and nine months later Fei was brought into the world.

After a few more years of her father serving in the military Allen retired to take a job in a company contracted to do work for the military as an advisor and developer in Los Angeles, California. While he did serve an important job, his family was from a line of wealthy influential politicians. The combination of marrying someone not of their “breeding” and not following in the family’s tradition, caused some contention in the extended family that would take several years to overcome. Even during the time he was not in the family’s good graces. Allan’s family lived extremely well. Allan did eventually make up with his father shortly before his death. A few months later his mother would die. The vast inheritance was divided between Allan and his sister. The family would eventually move into a very large home and wealthy neighborhood in Beverly Hills.

Her mother stayed at home and took care of the house and Fei. Fei grew up in a strict Christian household. She did as she was told and rarely caused problems. Her parents would try for more children, but were unsuccessful. Disappointed in not having a son, Allan pushed Fei into sports. Fei took to it well and practiced very hard to please her father and gain his approval. Even though she excelled at sports well through high school it never seemed to be enough for her father.

At a young age, Fei always believed she could do anything the boys in her neighborhood could do. As a result she was somewhat of a tomboy much to her mother’s displeasure. When she hit her teenage years she began to blossom and the boys took notice of her for all the reasons Fei didn’t necessarily want. On occasion, she would be sent home from school for beating up boys who got too fresh. Her grades, while good enough to keep her on her schools sports teams, weren’t much to look at. Her focus was not usually education and was centered on sports. She did manage to be accepted into an all girls’ Christian college in Montgomery, Alabama.

It was during her time at college she met Blaine Rinehart while attending an evening session of church. While she wasn’t necessarily interested in him, they struck up a friendship and did a lot of activities together. He got her involved in his martial arts classes after she attempted to kick his ass for a racial slur. He was highly interested in her aggression and endeavored to give her focus not only in a physical aspect, but in her spiritual growth as well. Eventually he would make his world known to her. He described a world full of kindred that lacked any spiritual focus.

Embrace and Requiem before Atlanta

Although skeptical, she kept an open mind for him and was ghouled. However, during a session of testing her patience, to find out what her limits were, she decked him and he wasn’t able to control the Beast inside him. He lashed out with claws and fought back. After regaining his composure he found Fei bleeding and dying on the floor. To save her from dying he embraced her, trading one sin for another. He belonged to the Lancea Sanctum and they weren’t pleased to find out what had happened. He had also violated the law of the city by not gaining approval to embrace a childe, and was punished by the Prince.

For the next year, Blaine attempted to rectify his mistake and began teaching Fei to be a Paladin like himself. She seemed to take to his training very well. She learned all she could teach him and, like with her father, sought to gain the approval of her sire and covenant. It was a little over a year after she had been embraced that Blaine would make his second mistake. During a verbal argument with an Acolyte, Blaine was attacked and by the time it was over he had torpored one acolyte and had committed Final death against another. While being absolved from the city of instigating the attack. The Archbishop punished him by staking him. He was to remain in this state for 30 years.

Fei attempted to continue on with her studies. The other members of the Lancea Sanctum seemingly ignored her and would find some excuse to keep their interaction with her limited. She would be undeterred and for two years she continued to progress as much as she could. She grew in faith and in strength. She focused on learning her clan’s gifts and quickly progressed. She eventually learned how to train animals from a fellow Gangrel and she also excelled in learning Protean surpassing many of those in the city. While not outright rejecting Fei, the Lancea Sanctum continued to look down on her as a ticking time bomb waiting to follow in her Sire’s footsteps. She came to the conclusion if she was ever to gain a sense of approval she would have to look elsewhere besides Montgomery.

She looked for options and one presented itself in her parent’s untimely death. Not only did she get money from her parent’s extremely generous life insurance, she also gained her father’s vast family inheritance. In a matter of months she would sell her family’s home, property, and liquidated all the assets she could. This prompted the elder’s of the Lancea to take notice, but her mind was made up and she left Montgomery, in the winter of 1978 an extremely wealthy woman. Her destination was Atlanta.

Requiem of Atlanta

Upon arrival in Atlanta, she sought out members of her covenant. Who she found was Bishop DuPont,Jacque. He saw in her a devout follower of Longinus and willingness to learn and follow his instruction. She related to him the events that led up to her arrival in Atlanta, and he offered to continue her training as a Paladin. She threw herself into work, never once allowing herself to grow stagnant. Her physical conditioning greatly improved as well as her intelligence under his tutelage.

In the summer of 1983, she completed her training and swore service and devotion to DuPont as his Paladin. She was ecstatic and had finally achieved the approval she has long desired. She saw Dupont as a surrogate father and Sire. She is always at his beck and call and looks to continually please him as best she can. She continues to study under his guidance and regularly consults him for courses of action.

She also respects the praxis of power in place. She would rather see the Bishop in power but doesn’t want to rock the boat carelessly. She feels it would be better to lay in wait for an opportunity to come her way and decided to take any and all measure to make sure that the covenant is in a position to take power if it ever arises. With her growing self-discipline came the slow realization that outward hostility would gain her nothing and only cause problems for the Lancea Sanctum. In fact as she continued to make her way in the city she finds respect for other Kindred.

Most of the kindred she respects are the other members of her clan. The Priscus, an Invictus, in particular she admires and respects. However she seems to find a support system of sorts with the other Gangrel. In 1989, she gains further recognition from the others in her clan and the Priscus asks her to be Whip. She gladly accepts with the blessing of Bishop Dupont. While she realizes this may be an attempt by the Priscus to mend the previously strained relations between the two Estates, she also realizes this is an opportunity to gain potential insight into what the Invictus are doing.

While she can be frequently seen around the city, she usually doesn’t say much. She is most comfortable with being the strong silent type. She usually avoids verbal confrontations and usually only speaks when there is something truly worthy to talk about. This seems to be a bane to the Circle of the Crone. During infrequent meetings of her and a member of the Circle, they would try to get her into “bible bashing” with them. She is not so easily dragged into such situations and chooses to let the Bishop be the voice of the covenant. She usually lets them be and follows a strict policy of tolerance of others as long as they don’t mess with her.

When she is not participating in activities in the city, covenant or clan, she has used her time to start her own business. She came up with the idea to start Thorne Security shortly after becoming the Bishop’s Paladin. With the insight and guidance of the Bishop, she gained allies within the city and acquired the necessary documents and codes necessary to start it. She started off small and with training guard dogs. As she gained more experience in the field, so did the requests for one of her dogs. She would eventually score a contract with the local Atlanta police department to provide them with dogs for their K-9 unit. Other law enforcement agencies would follow and with her clan weakness it became clear she would need help.

She came across a local businessman named Roger Jameson. He was intelligent and eager to help out. She gave him a job as her business manager. Eventually she would ghoul him as she recognized what a good asset he could be. This was met with slight disapproval from the Bishop but did recognize her business was growing and would be beyond her capability. It also didn’t hurt that he had friends in the financial sector. It was shortly after he was hired, he showed his worth and the business expanded to including bodyguards in 1990. The bodyguards were mostly composed of ex-military men and moonlighting cops. Her business did well for itself, providing security for concerts and other venues, but suddenly took off after scoring a private contract from the Olympic Committee to provide added security for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Afterward she started gaining business from celebrities and more exclusive clients. Which takes her business up to the present.

During her time in Atlanta she has seemingly avoided rumors or involvement in scuffles. However in 2001, an Unaligned Kindred entered the city causing problems. Mainly, the man liked to shoot his mouth off. It was during a visit to Elysium that Fei would have a run in with the man. She took his smack for as long as she could tolerate before leaving visibly furious. Soon after the Kindred went missing. Rumors were that she had killed the man for the disrespect. In fact, she had invited the man to her home where she led him into a trap. She had a discussion with him and pleasantly offered to show him the grounds. Either the Kindred was dimwitted or felt as though he could handle anything she could throw at him. What she threw at him was her hellhounds and the other dogs she was currently training. The scene in the kennel was brutal and the kindred was left in shreds teetering on Final Death. She chained the body up and buried him in the ground under the stalls at the kennel. For a while she could be seen in a bad mood. Any mention of the Kindred and she tends to go quiet and her demeanor grows dark.

Today, Fei continues to serve the Bishop with complete devotion and continues to profit from her business. She remains as silent and strong as ever. She continues about her way with devotion to Longinus and a seemingly unstoppable determination to gain the approval of those in power.

Current Requiem

Fei has continued her faithful service to the Bishop and the Lancea Sanctum. She has recently left the personal service of the Bishop to become anointed as the Inquisitor of Atlanta's Lancea Sanctum. In doing so has taken on the responsibility of weeding out heresy in the covenant. Before then she had served in the capacity of Paladin, however after the attack on and torpor of one Brentin Cole, and the potential breach to make the Bishop look bad, it became clear he was able to take care of himself and that Fei was indeed ready for a higher duty. She has taken on the personal aspect of the bear in physical form as well as mentality. For her the bear symbolizes diplomacy equal to its great strength and it is the emblem of ferocity in the protection of Kindred. A bear, to her, is also a symbol of healing and personal health, strength and bravery. All of the aspect she takes to heart as she goes about the business of becoming the best Inquisitor she can be.

Fei has also continued to excel in city politics as well. She has through her own self promoting has been granted the city position of Herald by Prince Anderson. It was at first a rocky road and she had a few stumbles at the beginning but as she continues to learn and grow she has found herself my settled into the position. However she is not without detractors and she has already butted heads with Bridget Connelly. Throughout it all though she continues to make herself as available and visible as possible, while desperately trying to make sure her emotions are kept to a minimum.

During this time Fei has also embraced. A young man named Alesandro. However her first attempt to take him out into the city did not go well and as such had to make apologies to the Prince. She has taught him all she can and has since sent him to Savannah so that he can be further educated in the testaments and doctrine of the Lancea Sanctum. While she is not ashamed of Alesandro, she is disappointed in the fact that he was a stubborn student and he seemed to have a different personality after his embrace. She still worries about him and frequently speaks with him on his progress and often counsels him and offers her advice. She admires his willingness to continue in the covenant and looks forward to a time when she can be reunited with him. He himself often expresses his apologies for not being a better childe but Fei always tells him as long as he is willing to progress, and look forward and not to the past, she will always be proud of him.

Lately Fei has been finding herself at odds with what she knows she will have to do and the fact that she may not be willing to do it. During recent nights the city has been under the threat of werewolves because their perceived encroachment of their land by the Kindred. Their has also been tension directed at the Sanctified and as of late and many do not see them in a positive light. Fei will fight for her covenant if she has to, but the tension and the threat of violence has made her long for nights where there is no squabbling and no fighting. With the attacked of Carter Rails on Devon Jones, Aria Sanura, and Will Ashford she realizes that there has to be a way to solve things without having to resort to violence first and that this may be the first of many violent breaks in the tension. A prospect Fei is not looking forward to.
