Preface

Monachal Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of Heaven and Earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary to redeem Man from Sin through his death and resurrection.

I believe that Longinus, by piercing the Savior's side as he hung from the Cross, did reveal the divinity of Christ through fulfillment of the prophecies and that, while Longinus was rightly Damned for his blasphemy, his damnation was itself part of God's Holy Plan.

I believe that those so Damned are the agents of God's will, chosen to receive the Embrace that we may test the faithful and reveal the divinity within each of them.

I believe that for my sins I am damned to Hell and yet through damnation I may find my purpose in God's Holy Plan.

It is necessary to remember that Monachal is first and foremost, and though there are subsects of such, we are still Monachal, and the creed must be maintained. That being said, Carcosa is not a city like other cities, therefore the same methods that are used in other cities can not be copied and applied without looking at the history of the city itself. This is not the writing of any heresy or an attempt to create another society within the already diverse rankings of the Lancea Sanctum. This is the doctrine to be followed by all Lancea Sanctum owing their allegiance to the parish and parishes of the future in Carcosa, Virginia.

The Sanguineous Catechism

We abide by the Canons, in their interpreted form.

  1. The First Canon, defining the purpose of our damnation is as it is interpreted everywhere.
  2. The Second Canon, defining the need for the Masquerade is as it is interpreted everywhere.
  3. The Third Canon, defining the necessary sin of the Embrace is outlined more closely:
    1. The embrace must take place during the prescribed Apostolica: the Creation Rite (which is defined more closely later in this document).
    2. Prior to the embrace, the childe must have all the relevant aspects of vampiric existence explained to her by a Sanctified Kindred. She is then given a choice: Either she accepts the embrace or she will be killed. Those who choose to not accept the embrace should be treated with respect, as they have shunned the Damnation of our kind.
    3. Both the sire and childe must take part in the Creation Rite before the childe will be considered for the Lancea Sanctum.
    4. There are limitations to those who may be embraced. None of the following types of individuals may be embraced:
      1. Children.
      2. The Pure.
      3. Those who have been in faithful matrimony with a partner for more than twenty five years and still may produce god-fearing children if left alone.
  4. The Fourth Canon, defining the abomination of Amaranth is as it is interpreted everywhere.
  5. The Fifth Canon, defining the revelation of the Testament of Longinus to all vampires who will listen is outlined more closely:
    1. It is expected that all Sanctified pursue evangelism towards all vampires who will listen.
    2. It is not expected for Sanctified to waste time that would be better used on their divine role, thus if a vampire refuses to hear the Truth of the Testament of Longinus the Sanctified is not required to continue wasting their night's hours on them. Instead, the vampire's name is to be given directly to the Priest or Bishop so that they may be noted for other Sanctified to evangelize in different methods towards them.
    3. If all true attempts to evangelize towards a vampire fails, the Bishop has right to declare them an unrepentant heretic, during which it is not required for any Sanctified to pursue evangelization towards the vampire and instead consider the best way to remove them from their night to night activities.
  6. The Sixth Canon, defining the efficaciousness of the sacred rites is as it is interpreted everywhere.
  7. The Seventh Canon, defining the miracles of Theban is outlined more closely:
    1. No member of the Sanctified should allow any vampire to suggest that Theban is, in anyway, similar to the blasphemous arts of the Acolytes' CrĂșac.
    2. No member of the Sanctified should ever expound upon the Miracles at length, especially for the blasphemous scholars of the Ordo Dracul.
    3. Damned who have stolen the secrets of the Theban Miracles either through trickery or through learning them and then departing the covenant are to be hunted down by members of the Sanctified, crucified for three nights and then finally burned to Final Death.
  8. The Eighth Canon, defining how Sanctified are to deal with the kine is outlined more closely:
    1. Kine are not to be dealt with excepting in the case when one must hunt. They are not friends, lovers, confidants.
    2. Kine are not to be abused without cause; they are not sport or entertainment to be abused.
    3. Ghouls are agreeable to deal with, due to the Regnant's investiture of vitae and time, but neither should they be considered more than a mortal who is damned to better serve our divine role.
    4. Damned who are given leave to tend to territories and domain are expected to caretake it as normal, but also to invest time and energy into the area so that the kine herd may flourish and grow so that the Damned may also flourish and grow.
    5. The practice of "blood dolls" for vampiric events is not to be considered acceptable, vampires are hunters and predators, they hunt - they do not sup upon food brought to them like sloths. Sanctified partaking in such affairs should immediately be taken to their confessors.
  9. The Ninth Canon, defining the recognition of wisdom within our ranks is as it is interpreted everywhere.
  10. The Tenth Canon, defining the transmutation of vitae is as it is interpreted everywhere.
  11. The Eleventh Canon, defining the proper operation of a monastary is as it is interpreted everywhere.
  12. The Twelvth Canon, defining the veneration of the Black Saints and the nature of martyrdom is as it is interpreted everywhere.
  13. The Thirteenth Canon, defining undeath, is not practiced by the parish.

The Night to Night of a Predator

This section is to detail the sins and ill-thought-of practices that vampires should avoid in their night to night activities and why.

"That our bodies are not our own. Our purpose is to serve, and when we stray from that purpose, we are to be chastened. The light of the son excoriates; the flames of a fire purify fleshly evil."

Vampires are naturally creatures of vice. It can become all-consuming if it is allowed. However, vice serves a purpose as there would be no virtues if there were no vices. Damned are expected to restrain their urges, indulging in them so long as it does not interfere with their divine purpose. As such, relations between vampires is not forbidden, but when such relations jeopardize one's divine purpose they are to be terminated immediately. Drinking from another vampire not your superior within the parish is forbidden; it puts a Damned's word who is not established as a predator who most manifests his Damnation beyond your ability above the word of God. Binding yourself to an Acolyte of the Crone willingly under any circumstance, or those in service of such, is considered heretical.

"The taste of all sustenance other than Vitae are as ash upon the tongue."

Vampires feed upon blood, not on meat, water or even such creations as Lacrima. Only during the hunt or in an act to preserve the Masquerade should a vampire taste anything other than vitae. Lacrima consumption is akin to a mortal drug for vampires and does not act as an aid towards a vampire's divine purpose, so it is to be considered a distraction and thus a sin.

"It was then that I came upon that dark monastery and did secretly look on the monks inside. They who were meant to be servants of the Lord, who had sworn themselves to service for years numbering only as long as a man would live, had grown doubtful and idle and within them found sin.

So were they shown that the fearsome hunger of Death might creep out of the night and bite through claims of piety. So they were all bled and slain and devoured by the lion of the lord."

It is expected that the wolves of the Lord keep track of those who would claim piousness and lead the kine flock towards salvation. There is no greater crime than for a man of God to give in to his base impulses and sin for the sake of doing so or not believe that he must uphold the laws of God. Thus, those men of God who are practicing misdeeds must be terrified moreso than any others, and if they do not correct their ways, they must forfeit their blood and be slain. It should also be noted that Mercy will serve no purpose for those who are given their divine purpose, as Longinus did not spare the monks of the monastery out of Mercy. Mercy is provence of the weak and mortals, and lends to bad judgement and allowances that God has not commanded of us. Mercy is sin.

"Since the time of Noah, in the oldest nights, the Damned did not know their place.

Brought into darkness seemingly without purpose, they were as nothing more than feral wretches, driven solely by a ravenous bloodlust and a fear of those things that could bring a swift end to the cacophony that was their existence.

Ignorant, bestial and truly alone, they could claim no semblance of community and no rules or laws to govern themselves and no understanding of their divine importance."

To frenzy is to lose all control of self and the purpose we are to serve. When one frenzies, one sins, and must immediately seek out a confessor. It is important for the Damned to control themselves so that they do not return to the beastial wretches that their instincts tell them to become. We are more than wretches. We are Damned. We have a purpose.

"The evil become Damned; God has taken those worthy of His love to His own side."

No vampire should ever embrace the pure of heart, children or those who have served in faithful matrimony for many years and are still capable of producing children to enrich the kine herds. Though it is recognized that the embrace is a necessary evil, it is the duty of all Sanctified to still yet try to stop and convince a vampire from embracing and thus Damning another soul.

The Creation Rite

This section details the main points that must be touched upon for a successful Creation Rite.

Prior to the Embrace

  1. The sire must request the attention of the parish - or at the very least a Priest or a Bishop to oversee the Creation Rite.
  2. The sire must explain the relevant aspects of Damnation to his prospective childe and allow the childe to choose.
  3. The sire must purify himself.
    1. The sire may choose from one of the following ways to purify himself:
      1. He may accept that the Canons are written upon his flesh, in full, with a sharpened metal spike, heated to be sweltering to the touch before he may reach his childe.
      2. He may accept that his flesh be cut from the bone on his feet and then must walk across hot coals to reach his childe.
  4. Once purification, which is overseen by the parish - or at the very least a Priest or Bishop, is complete, those of the Sanctified will leave, letting the sire embrace his childe alone.

A note for converts: Any would-be true Sanctified must go through the act of the Creation Rite. In the case of a convert, there is likely no sire to be present for the Rite, and thus if another Sanctified in the parish sees it fit, he may choose to take the purification on himself for the convert at the time of the Rite.
