The Area
Diamondhead. Downtown. The crown jewel of Carcosa, who’s shimmering spires split upwards from the streets below like an army of metallic and neon and LCD juggernauts ready to crush the sea of ants beneath them. Street lights are affixed to metal posts that bend over the streets, like the branches of some sickly and leaf-less steel tree.
The streets are filled with hectic drivers squeezing into the underdeveloped road system, bicyclists careening off and on of the sidewalks to avoid plastering pedestrians, construction crews futilely attempting to finish up 20-year old expanded roadway systems and a host of other aggravations, obstacles and sounds. Even on the weekend, when things should be more relaxed after the hectic, grueling pace that a workweek commands, Diamondhead manages to tirelessly continue to be a place where defensive driving is an asset.
Shooting off onto two main streets are night clubs, jazz clubs, restaurants and every near-upscale thing a person could want – that’s not represented on the exclusive, wealthy island of Hawthorn Point. Packs of socialite golddiggers and player-would-bes troll the nightlife, even during the week, making it the most popular spot for celebrities and who’s-who to go and spend their money on a good time. Speaking of money, the precious space along the “strip” (a direct rip-off of Las Vegas) costs exorbitant amounts of money to obtain, and often one place has to be demolished before another place can be built.
But aside from that, most major banking establishments are present and accounted for, and Diamondhead gains it’s name from being the center-piece of the wealth and American Dream that Carcosa has become (for those rare few). The area hosts thousands of people at any given time, making it so very easy to get lost in the beautiful chaos of the area.
