Location: Basker Projects (Hanover Wards) Predatory Taint: 0
Atmosphere: Unruly
The people in this environment are not likely to be unified in their behavior or motivations, but they are all angry or concerned about something. It might be something within the environment itself or perhaps something abstract such as a recently passed law or word of some decision made by organized crime. Violence against outsiders is a strong likelihood in these environments and requires little more than direct eye contact or an overheard conversation to spark it. Some property
destruction has likely already been committed, and local law enforcement may already be en route to keep an eye on the environment. Subtle or socially skilled outsiders should be able to get through without provoking aggression if they play their cards right.
Description
Located on the furthest tip of what's still considered Hanover Wards, rather than Butcher's Block, Devil's Lane strikes a shack of a view, perfectly capturing exactly what people expect whiskey bars to look like in their heads.
The sign out front, on a weathering, rusting pole, is half illuminated, half burnt out, and has a mostly naked female devil leaning against a wall. The letters that make up "Devil's Lane" are scripted, like the joint was at one point going to try and be classy. By the state of the sign itself, and the building behind it, well... anyone can see the difference for themselves.
The parking lot is a haphazard sort, with potholes, gravel, asphalt, condoms and needles littering around. Devil's Lane is sandwiched between two abandoned multiple story buildings, so often it's easy to see squatters and homeless lurking about - above floor level (they've a nasty habit of getting drunk and urinating on vehicles parked below, especially "expensive" sorts).
Inside is just as bad. Weathered, stinking and filthy floors, stale cigarette smells and a crackly but still living juke between a corner and a pool table, which just as often can spark fights just heading over there as it can changing the song to one that the local nasty boys don't want to hear. Old bras are plastered all over the place, as if it's supposed to give some kind of aesthetic appeal to all of the guys who go there. Just as frequently are Confederate and American flags plastered up as well. Ethnically, you just won't find any Blacks or Asians here, it's much too close to the vice grip on Butcher's Block that the Whites and Latinos have - and Devil's Lane happens to be a favored hang out of those types.
