The automotive production lines still don’t stop in Motor City, even while other industries get outsourced abroad. Still, the factories empty, and the buildings get left behind. The blue-collar population falls into unemployment and discontent regularly, but haven’t the gumption to take matters into their own hands with their local government, and instead the youth painfully try to chase after dreams that will take them far, far away from Detroit.

The city is divided by 6 Mile, 7 Mile and 8 Mile Roads into the haves and have-nots. On the (literal) wrong side of the tracks, the city has the worst crime rate in the United States. Worse yet, nearly half of Detroit’s population are functionally illiterate.

The Kindred of Detroit

The Carthians have recently taken and wrested control of the city from a much withered and diminished Invictus within the past two years. That makes it still well within the boundaries of determining whether or not the next decade will be stable under Carthian control or if the Invictus will somehow manage to retaliate and take back what it believes rightfully theirs.

The Carthians have quickly put feelers out into the second largest covenant, the Lancea Sanctum, and brought them on board by offering them positions and essentially religious freedom. Additionally, the Carthian Prince has agreed to outlaw all Circle of the Crone in the boundaries of Detroit, and given the Lancea Sanctum permission to handle any that arrive as they see fit. The law against the Acolytes doesn’t even have a 24-hour warning to leave the city limits written into it.

Strangely enough, the two warring covenants miss the real threat, the covenant which has been working in Detroit to promote misery and despair for a hundred years: The Lancea Sanctum. Most don’t even really consider the possibility that the Lancea Sanctum may in fact take the initiative to seize praxis now that the Carthian Movement has done the tough work of routing out influences of the Invictus for them. They don’t even think that the very, very well respected Bishop, who rivals the Prince’s prestige equally, has any designs to achieve Praxis. They think she just wants to spread her flock. But the Lancea Sanctum has other things in mind... and the Invictus surely aren’t going to teach the upstart Carthians a lesson on watching their holdings while they partition and mince up the city in their victory to themselves and their allies.
