These environments are waiting for the spark that will cause fights or force people to close up shop and lock their doors. Residents either take to the streets to get a feel for what is happening, drawn there by some unconscious sense of uncertainty or angst, or remain inside while feeling nervous for reasons they can’t explain. Violence is not evident yet, but it wouldn’t take much to cause it. Locals’ response to outsiders depends on the individuals; generally, the populace is unlikely to be antagonistic toward individual outsiders just for being there.
Description
A dive bar if there ever was one, the Cotton Row Club has been around and looking about the same for as long as anyone under fourty can remember. The floors are pretty much never swept, and there's all manner of sticky feeling on just about anything that can be reached - with some dubious looking stains even well above people's heads. It's not uncommon to see heroin, coke or other hard drug use inside, and those who use them look as helpless and strung out as you'd expect.
The restrooms smell of piss and most of the time it's just not safe to spend any amount of excess time there. It isn't as if the people inside are aggressive, either, most of them seem to be there to get away from it all, and many of them look like they've at least got some job somewhere. It's just that the bar seems to be populated by a large number of people who give off vibes of hopelessness, race and sex completely ignored.
