Oh what a tangled web we weave when we practice to believe.
- Laurence J. Peter

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be.
- Kurt Vonnegut

Every movement starts with an idea. A thought or a dream that incites passion - creating an energy that inspires others to want to be a part of it. Successful movements are made up of diverse people from all walks of life. But they are bound by one thing - belief in the cause.

Clementine Beaumont

Clementine was born out of necessity - her parents' marriage was falling apart. They thought having a child would be the best way to fix it, to bring them back together. Sadly enough it didn't work. In fact, Clementine's mother fell into a deep depression, one that could not be shaken. By the time she was 5 years old, she knew something wasn't right with her mother. But she loved her all the same, so much that all Clementine ever wanted to do was help her. It would be a fruitless effort in the end. However, Clementine's wish to help others compelled her to work hard for an education.

Her career didn't take off right away due to The Depression in the United States. Clementine did a lot of social work in the meantime, mainly in schools and soup kitchens. In 1940 she took a partner job with another psychiatrist. She encountered a series of unfortunate clients and events. Her mother had committed suicide, her father died of a broken heart, literally. She had no siblings to speak of, and distant family was simply that. Distant. She felt alone, but in an effort to cover that up she continued to be the bright and shining star her clients expected and needed her to be. Though there would be one person who'd see through it - down to her very soul, which would be why he chose her in the first place. Clay McKnight was her newest client (1942). He claimed to be a simple man but there were signs of something different. He was a bullshitter at heart and he was good at it. But he was having some mental instabilities, as Ventrue sometimes do, that he couldn't seem to cope with. He picked a mortal to open up to because they were safe, or rather, he went into that thinking they were.

The Danse Macabre

After Clay spilled his beans to Clementine he didn't really know what to do with her. But there was one thing - the thing that all neurotics dream of doing - killing their analyst, or rather, he embraced her. Clay did nothing more than teach Clementine how to survive and a small amount of clan and covenant politics - enough to keep her alive. They parted ways and Clementine found herself drawn toward the Carthian Movement, they seemd to be the only Kindred with enough mortality left to show even the tiniest bit of weakness.

By 1945 Clementine was on her own. For fear of running into people she knew in her mortal life, she moved to Georgia...which was pretty damn far from California. Atlanta was crazy when she got there. The prince had disappeared, the Ordo was being blamed, and Anthony Anderson was the new prince.

  • Known to other characters - Eveline Carre lended a helping hand to Clementine in a way. As Clementine was trying to gently ease herself into Kindred Society in Atlanta, a squabble between the women occurred, knocking her square into the lime light. Though, it was rumored that they were at one point lesbian lovers and that the relationship ended on a very sour note, which is why they were so bitchy toward one another for quite some time, the truth is most certainly far from that. Eveline thought she was smarter than Clementine because she'd been in the city longer, been embraced longer, and had bigger allies in the city. Clementine thought Eveline was ridiculous based on how she was acting toward her. By 1960 the whole thing had dissolved into nothing, the two women came to a truce.

1950s

  • Known to other characters - Clementine begins watching over North Atlanta in the 1950s, this being her favored spot in the city.

1960s

  • Known to other characters - During the Civil Rights Movement, Clementine used her influences in Bureaucracy to help get some bylaws passed in favor of the movement. She also offered help by using her Finance allies to fund the Civil Rights campaigns.

1970s

Clementine helped a fellow Carthian narrowly avoid a masquerade breach by providing him with a new identity as he had a recognizable name amongst an old group, which is something he did every decade to avoid the same thing from happening. At her suggestion, Peter Krokov would continue changing personas throughout the decades and Clementine would continue to rake in favors from him.

  • Known to other characters - Clementine and Francisco Aldea were in Elysium conversing when approached by a new, recently arrived supposedly-Unaligned pair of nomads. During the conversation, the pair inquired, subtly - but still persistantly - about where they could locate various havens throughout the city for "meeting and greeting". Skeptically viewing the Kindred, Clementine and Aldea followed information on the pair of Kindred and their recent activities. What they found was both a shock and unexpected: the pair were part of a small group of four Belial's Brood members that had very recently taken up residence in the city. The pair quickly informed other Kindred within the city and a small party of retainers were used to make the Brood party "disappear". For their efforts, Clementine and Aldea were asked to serve as Primogen and Sheriff, respectively, to Prince Anthony Anderson.

1980s

Peter Krokov was lusting after Clementine in the 80s and finally, after she just wouldn't give in, he used his wicked Daeva ways to knock her off her feet and straight into his bed. Afterward, Clementine was angry and worried he'd do something to embarass her in public. She still doesn't trust Krokov and there is a bit of tension between the two.

  • Known to other characters - Clementine and Marissa Carisle have a verbal disagreement in the halls of Elysium about being presentable. Carisle came in with blood and cuts all over her face. Clementine thought it was very strange for a Primogen to be gracing the Elysium with such a presence. She'd also made mention that if Carisle didn't want to be presentable when coming to elysium, maybe she should be banned until she got a damn clue. But to Clementing, Carisle blew it out of proportion, saying Clementine said that all Acolytes weren't presentable enough for elysium.
  • Known to other characters - In 1982 Clementine is granted the domain of North Atlanta.

1990s

Clementine was relieved to have met someone like Devon Jones, who could teach her about the new technologies. But their quiet, private lessons soon evolved into something a little deeper; a love affair. But due to them both being fairly quiet individuals the relationship became awkward. Nothing was ever set in stone, but they just sort of faded away from each other. Clementine still has a soft spot for DJ and he might still have one for her, but neither of them can seem to get over the awkward silences that occur when they're around each other. Just to make matters worse for Clementine, she constantly wonders if DJ's awkwardness around her is because he knows about her one night stand with Peter Krokov.

Present

Clementine is still a Primogen in the city. Though she is getting old, she still holds on dearly to her roots in the Carthian Movement. She's a very observent lurker in the halls of Elysium, content to watch and listen; but she'll throw her two cents in where necessary. Clementine is an all-around likable woman. She's personable and easy to talk to, preferring to come across as a shy girl rather than a bitch like Bridget Connelly. Which by the way, Clementine has a secret hatred for. She's never liked Connelly's attitude and treatment of people but she's never admitted it to anyone. Connelly never agreed that Clementine should be a Primogen because she felt that Primogen should be picked for their advisorial capabilities and not as a reward. Of course, this leaves some bitter blood between the two women. It's not something that's ever been resolved and not likely to be any time soon. Clementine hasn't openly defended herself from Connelly, preferring to look like the victim. (IC knowledge - except for Clementine's hatred for Bridget.)

Clementine lost her position as primogen due to a failure to communicate with the Prince. But she spoke with him in regards to her position and explained herself. Anthony Anderson allowed Clementine to retake her seat in the primogen chair with the understanding that she would get someone to make a commitment to the Carthian Experiment within a year. After Trey King went missing the members of the Carthian Experiment elected Clementine for Prefect. Soon after she embraced Will Ashford. She's had a rough time settling into the position as both a Prefect and a sire. After a botched treaty alliance with the Invictus the Carthian Experiment lost, in Clementine's eyes, a bit of social standing. But Clementine didn't seem overly worried about it. Her relationship with the Hound, Devon Jones seems to be falling into its natural state of off again-on again. Clementine continues to juggle being a new sire, Prefect, and a primogen. But the rumor has it that she's coming out of her quiet shell.

After the Invictus took over Atlanta, Clementine decided to step down from Primogen. She also stepped down from Prefect for the Carthian Movement and the position was handed over to her childe, Will Ashford. Clementine now occupies the position of Auditor for the Carthian Movement.

Assets

The Visual

Clementine's a woman of moderate height with a tempting hour glass figure. Her auburn hair falls in soft waves to the middle of her back. Her stark blue eyes sit under auburn brows that are finely shaped, and on the bridge of her nose sits a pair of thin framed silver eye glasses - which gives her the intelligent studious flare. Clementine's makeup is flawless; perfect shades give her a natural glow and accentuate her beauty. ((Humanity 6. Presence 3. Blood Potency 3.
