Atmosphere: Welcoming
Welcoming locations are both more active than Accepting locations and more mercurial. Likely environments include underground raves, meetings of secret societies, impromptu drum circles, biker gatherings, and the like. Some places, which require either an invitation or some secret information to find, assume that those who are there share some common interest, ideal, or understanding, and therefore are places where one’s guard can be lowered. Others, whether due to naïveté or an impressive amount of faith and trust in humanity, simply happily welcome any who find them. Both environments, however, can turn ugly very quickly when the most meager of slights is committed. Whether an accidental signal that tells others that the outsider isn’t supposed to be there or a taboo behavior or simply ruining the party, all such acts are punishable with snubbing, expulsion, mockery, or even attack depending on the mood and lifestyle of those present.
Main Description
Thick, but not too thick, doors lead into an open, vaulted ceiling room with recessed lighting behind panes of stained glass that depict various situations (none of them altogether religious) save for one common trait: they all depict a spear quite readily. There are additional hanging lights from the ceiling, all very subdued, giving the corners of the room a subdued shadow feel, but the area for seating and discussing a very subdued light. Nothing is harsh or overdone. The wooden paneling is inlaid nicely, though isn't of over-the-top quality, giving the interior a very down-to-earth, but modern feel. It should be noted, though, that upon entry to the Church one feels uplifted, as though you can feel the palpable presence of the divine, warmly enticing you towards your own intellectual pursuits.
Behind the front of the room looks to be a recessed doorway that leads further into the church. Those with access (meaning that the door leading there is usually locked) find their way into office spaces, of which there are three separate doorings and two of which are locked.
Specialty IC Information (AKA You Only Know it if You Know it)
The first office, the larger of the three (and one of the locked rooms), is outfitted as an actual office with a large wooden desk, a bookshelf with reference books on it and a couple of chairs facing the desk. Just beside the baseboard in the corner of the room is a small hole that looks like a mouse hole, inside is a switch that when pressed causes a small clicking noise. Then a section of the wood flooring can be swung upward and a set of spiral stairs lead down. The room underneath the office is small and clearly carved out of the earth, the walls are reinforced concrete and hung with fabric to soften the atmosphere. It looks like an emergency bedroom, because there's a small desk, a chair, and a bed. Under the desk is a small safe, bolted to the floor with a combination pad on the front. A door opposite the stairs open into a larger chamber roughly the same size as the church above.
- The room is large and empty, the walls and ceiling are reinforced with wood to keep the dirt from crumbling away, the floor itself is still dirt. There's a dampness in the room and the faint sound of water trickling. At the far end of the room is a cross that spans almost from floor to ceiling with manacles set into the ends of the cross beams and at the very bottom. In front of that is a sloped altar spread with a black cloth, on it is a silver cross and beside that a silver chalice. All around the room are large racks of candles set in cast iron holders that fade from initial view into the shadows of the room.
The second office is empty except for a few cleaning supplies and is obviously being used as storage.
The third office (and the second of the locked rooms) is decorated with a couch, some chairs, tables and lamps - a comfortable sitting area. There are also bookshelves along three walls, the books on them comprise a very general but extensive reference library.
Around the Back
Behind the Church itself is a secondary structure, not exactly in the same style of the original house though it's close, which likely makes it a more recent addition. It's long and somewhat narrow, almost the length of a warehousing unit, but only half as wide. There are two sets of doors, one on either end (like a shotgun home). Inside, the floor is cement and the walls currently undecorated. There are training dummies set up, the type you can find at any sports department store, punching bags and other assorted set ups (such as practice weapons and even a couple real weapons). It's clearly a training area. There is also a makeshift range near the back-half of the warehouse that's been enclosed, and sand set up behind string fed lines (for targets) to catch errant bullets and other projectiles.
