Nekros, Level 5 Ritual
Reference: Suspire.org
Description
This ritual involves passing to the Underworld, the domain of Hades. The caster prepares this ritual by soaking a piece of chalk in blood, and chanting to prayer to Hades to send his ferryman Charon to retrieve the Disciple from the real world and grant him access to his domain. When the caster finishes, he draws a doorway in a shadow with the chalk, and once he walks through it, he is transported to the Underworld. None may accompany the Vrykolake on his journey.
Often the caster may gain strange visions of a skeletal being in a black robe, and oceans of blood and souls of torment for milliseconds before entering, which leaves him disoriented for the first few seconds of entering or exiting the Underworld. These visions often are imprinted into the mind of the caster, even invading his dreams while he sleeps if one enters Hades' domain too often...
System
This ritual allows the caster to enter the underworld, by stepping through a near by shadow and then exiting through a shadow to go back to the real world.
Before casting this ritual, the Disciple must first get a piece of chalk, and soak it in his own vitae (1 vitae's worth) for 30 minutes and chant. The chalk will mystically absorb the blood. After this the caster must draw a outline of a doorway in the shadow he wishes to enter, then cast the ritual which requires a half hour of fully intent chanting and near-trance meditation.
The ritual requires that you expend 1 willpower point to enter the underworld, and when the caster wishes to leave the underworld, he must draw another outline of a door in the shadow he wishes to exit through or return to his original door. Redrawing another door while in the underworld is both difficult and dangerous - the caster must expend another willpower point and for the two turns required to draw the door, the caster may do nothing else and is considered without defense and prone.
After returning from the Underworld the chalk crumbles to dust, and another must be made before casting the ritual again.
When entering the Underworld for the first turn, the caster is disoriented, posing a -2 dice penalty to all actions, the same penalty is added for the first turn when exiting as well. While in the underworld the Disciple becomes a 'solid' ghost of sorts, and can only be hurt by powers or weapons that inflict wounds to ghosts. He is not capable of moving any faster than if he were in the real world, though he may pass through solid objects such as walls and the like (but not the earth).
Indeed, some vampires have reported (while using Aura Perception) that they have spotted vampiric-ghost auras, which could have been a product of a disciple traversing the Underworld.
