Charles Taylor

Charles is a tall guy who cannot be older than 30 or so. His dark brown hair curls fashionably, his shirts and jackets look modern, and he somehow manages to wear them in a casual way. Charles generally makes a very composed impression. He speaks with a faint German accent.

Charles arrived in Las Vegas on the 14th of August, 2011. Here is a link to his journal.

OOC: BP 2, Presence 3, Striking Looks 2, Humanity 7. From Philadelphia.

Philadelphia

Characters from Philadelphia have the following IC information:

  • "The fledgling is the youngest childe of Thomas Ashcroft, you know, one of the two slightly less rebellious Carthians. Charles doesn't look like a bomb-thrower, either. No idea why the other Carthians respect that kid, it's probably because of Thomas."
  • "He mainly hangs out with other fledglings and neonates."
  • "Charles? Over there. The guy who's powdering his nose again. Yeah, just ask him if you can have some of that shit. He seems to have an endless supply anyway."
  • "He's one of these brainies, even has a PhD I think. Just be careful, or he will make your ears bleed. He keeps talking about a French philosopher guy lately -- and that's an improvement! Before that, he tried to lecture us on the latest theories about ..."
  • "Something must have happened to Charles. I heard that he eats rats now -- even though he just got that neat little district to hunt in."
  • "He and Ricky do this meditation thing together, don't they? A Carthian and a Dragon. I bet they're keeping another yoga mat warm for the Prince. Just in case."
  • "Yes, he's quick. Turned Jack's brainless thug into a gentleman in only a couple of weeks. I'm just worried that he will put his bees in my ghoul's bonnet. I've no idea why he stopped selling those hellhounds, though. Probably some stupid Carthian shit."
  • "Now that things become interesting between the Carthians and the Invictus, the boy just leaves the city."

Carthians from Philadelphia also have the following IC information:

  • Besides his sire, there was also Thomas Rider, an old and creepy Ventrue, who took Charles under his wings shortly after the embrace. As a childe of Ashcroft and a student of Rider, it was enough not to attract negative attention. He also became useful at some point ...
  • As a mortal, Charles was a postdoc at a university. He established a political discussion group with three other Carthians, but was careful not to delve into his reform ideas with members of other covenants. His latest self-characterization was "liberal humanist". He maintained some connections with mortals, which he kept secret from members of other covenants. Part of his philosophy was to do everything to keep his beast under control.
  • (Carthian and Invictus knowledge:) He stopped selling dangerous beasts to non-Carthians after two of his hellcats were used against the Movement by an Invictus.
  • Carthian knowledge: Before he left, Charles had spoken against the means to reclaim Praxis that had been proposed by other Carthians.

Haven

From the outside

The huge property in the margins of Sunrise Manor is surrounded by a ten-foot high iron fence, which is covered by security cameras on all sides. However, the hedge behind the fence, the peaks of three palm trees, and the curvate decorations on the fence and the gate make it look well-tended rather than protective.

An intercom system at the front gate allows guests to get cleared for entry.

Behind the gate

The driveway leads to the front door of a big two storey building. There are two garage-like annexes on the sides, a balcony above the main entrance, and an architectural feature that looks like a little round-tower. There is also a dog hutch close to the annex on the left. The terracotta-hued walls, the greens, and the little flower arrangements here and there bestow a mediterranian flair upon the mansion and its surroundings. Everything looks extremely well-tendered. At least one or two people are walking around the property 24/7.

The mansion

Behind the main entrance door is a lobby with a couple of comfortable chairs. A swing door leads to a big parlor, which also features a bar in one corner and a view of the garden behind the house. The other three doors lead to a conference room on the left, a study on the right, and the small round tower. The two floors of the round tower are filled with books and connected by a winding staircase.

On both sides of the swing door in the lobby, staircases lead to the first floor and the basement. The first floor consists of six small bedrooms and also provides access to the balconies on the front and the back of the house. In the basement is Charles's own bedroom, a meditation room, and two store rooms.

One of the annexes is used as a garage and stores common janitor and gardening tools. The other annex features all kinds of animal equipment: sacks with fodder, cages of different sizes -- including some with dozens of mice in them -- leashes, toys, etc. etc.

Garden and training areas

Behind the mansion is a big lawn, with a couple of palm trees and an artificial pond in the middle. Some smaller patches in the back are separated from each other by wire-netting fences and are populated by dogs and their dog hutches. You also notice bird nests in the palm trees -- which looks a bit weird -- and maybe an eagle which takes a nap in one of the nests or flies above the premise. The lawn features a training course, a wooden dummy, as well as other toys and equipment for training and entertaining different kinds of animals.

Right behind the mansion is another rectangular annex with a floor area of about 1,000 square feet. It provides additional living quarters and is connected to the main house via a little canopied pathway. It seems to be empty, though.
