Beast

The beast is a term kindred use to refer to what might as easily be called their darker halves. It is a presence within the kindred's pysche with the stated goal of survival, and only the most simple and animalistic of logic to guide it there. Naturally, then, the beast is often ill suited to society.

Different kindred experience the beast differently, and in particular some Gangrel will talk at you for hours if you question them on the matter, but there are a few things common to all kindred.

Contents

Predator's Taint

The Beast can recognize it's kind. It can sense others who carry a beast, and the relative strength of that beast, which is directly related to the kindred's Blood Potency. Upon meeting a new kindred for the first time the Beast will either rail for the destruction of the weaker interloper, or attempt to flee in terror from the more powerful creature. This of course, can make introductions a little bit awkward sometimes.

Frenzy

Frenzy is the general term kindred use to refer to the state of having temporarily lost control to the beast. There are three types, delineated based on the stimulus which causes the lapse in control, but the Beast can easily slide from one to the next as the situation demands. A frenzied kindred is a frightening sight to behold as he becomes the physical embodiment of a raging beast.

Wassail

The Beast knows it needs blood. When it doesn't have enough, the sight, smell, or taste, sometimes even the suggestion of blood, can drive it to the fore and the kindred will become a mindless, vicious, and enraged creature with no goal other than immediate satisfaction of its hunger. The beast is known to be counterproductive and burn through what little vitae in attempt to overpower any who may try to prevent the kindred from feeding immediately.

Rotschrek

Often termed "the red fear" Rotschrek is the elder's preferred term for fear frenzy. Fire and Sunlight are the best known banes to kindred existence, and the beast has absolutely no desire to remain in the presence of either for a single moment longer than it has to, and will tend to cause the kindred to flee in abject terror from either. Of course this has certain disadvantages, namely the beast's famous inability to operate a doorknob, and it's choice to instead to try break down walls and doors to escape.

Frenzy

If you don't consider fear and hunger to be emotions, than it can be properly said that the Beast only knows 1 emotion. Anger. The kindred's and beast's anger are closely intertwined, and an insult against a kindred can quickly call his beast out. An enraged beast has no thought for anything except the destruction of the offender, and a short enough attention span that that quickly translates to the destruction of anyone in between as well.

Special Cases

There are of course certain groups of kindred who experience and interact with the beast in a profoundly different way from the average kindred. Two clans, the Gangrel and Nosferatu, are largely defined by their beast, albeit in wildly different ways. The Ordo Dracul, on the other hand, spends much of it's time studying and knowing the beast in a radically different way.

Gangrel

The Gangrel are often called Savages, and they are in many senses the clan of the beast. No other clan's kindred suffer (or benefit) from such a deep and personal connection with the beast. Gangrel's notorious poor logic and short attention spans are well known to stem from the constant distractions caused by the beast and it's various grumblings.

Nosferatu

Kindred of many clans often say that what they are inside, the Nosferatu are on the outside. This is true to an extent. The Nosferatu may be rightly said to wear the beast on the outside, and their countenances tend to become rather monstrous as a result. Even those Nosferatu who do not become overtly hideous carry an aura of fear and discomfort around them everywhere as the Beast projects the mien of a predator and a monster.

The Ordo Dracul

The Ordo Dracul is rumored to have quite an interest in the Beast. What exactly they do is a complete mystery to most kindred, but any who spend a lot of time around the Dragons will quickly notice the supreme degree of control some of them are able to exert in the face of the beast. In any case, members of the Ordo are fabled for their detailed philosophies and theories about the beast.
