Auspex

From SuspireWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Auspex grants a character superlative sensory capabilities. At the lowest levels, it sharpens a Kindred’s mundane senses. As one progresses in mastery, entirely new avenues of insight open up before the user. Ultimately, this is the Discipline of gleaning information, whether that data comes from sights and smells, from auras and patterns of energy or directly from the mind of another creature. In addition, Auspex can be used to pierce the veil of powers that cloud, dissemble and deceive (see Clash of Wills).

Aura Perception

  • It should be noted that you activate auspex 2 once.. and each person you look at can contest/you make the roll against them. While the action is instant, we require 2 rounds worth of In Character study of a person's pattern which equates to about 5 or 6 minutes real time. You can't just do a drive-by Aura checking. There is a sidebar snippet under the Aura Perception, interestingly (because it's vague) that allows it to add to lie-detection rolls - to clarify: this is only available for use if you have Aura Perception currently running, much like the blurb for Initiative underneath the power.
  • Also, in the errata, this was added: Intelligence + Empathy + Auspex is rolled versus the subject’s Composure + Blood Potency in a contested action.
  • The modifiers in the auspex aura write up are really vague, so we decided to clarify them...
-1 The primary shade and color - Your primary nature. Obvious in your face stuff. Probably doesn't change over the course of a scene.
-2 Color patterns, including information revealing - Large shifts in mood. Going from easy going to hate. Might change over a course of a scene if reason happens. Can see diablerie.
-3 Subtle shifts in the mixtures of color and pattern. - Subtle shifts in mood. Going from easy going to mild distaste. Probably changes multiple times over the course of a scene. Can see diablerie.
  • Sensing Deception Section - In a thoroughly social environment where lies are the common currency, allowing for Aura Perception to conclusive reveal a lie can be deeply problematic. Intricate webs of deceit are revealed by nothing more than a test. Complex machinations can be uncovered by the Prince’s goons almost effortlessly. So, we are using this optional rule: instead of conclusively showing that the subject is lying, Aura Perception merely shows flickers of deceit in an aura. It becomes impossible to clearly deduce whether the last statement was a lie, or precisely what the character is trying to hide. Considering the often-paranoid nature of the Danse Macabre, Aura Perception thus becomes a useful indicator of deceit rather than an infallible lie detector.

The Spirit's Touch

  • Uses should always be brought to the attention of a Storyteller so that they may assign any modifiers.

Telepathy

  • Uses of this should probably be brought to a ST's attention if either of the players involved feel unsure about what should be said.
  • For detection of thoughts probed, not implanted, the detection rolls has been altered to the following: Intelligence + Composure as normal, but you must get more successes than the telepath achieved on the probing roll, which you then recognize as "an intruder", but not necessarily the person in question - you don't get that.
