The Area
The Amptons are mostly zoned for residential living, but with the private university, Hawthorn University (and it's adjoining Hawthorn Marine Animal Conservatory - though that's not part of the actual school), lying in it's midst there are also several places tailored for the wealthy young adults going there on their family's dime.
The university, which is split into Medical and Business schools, has it's own hospital which functions as the hospital for the residents of the island and the emergency situations that need "the best" doctors from the mainland. Hawthorn University Hospital is easily twice as good as any of the hospitals on the mainland, and there is a helipad for life support flights to and fro. The business section of the school has an expansive system of the sprawling campus, and regularly there are lawsuits against the school if a college-seeking student doesn't make the cut to get into it's limited acceptance policy for new students. The general amount of new students they'll allow in per semester is around two thousand, which can make the competition from overseas and from other places in the country intense enough for denials to become "a big deal". While you would expect the lawsuits to dampen the name of the young adult, it actually does not; there is an unspoken agreement to acknowledge ruthlessness in all of it's forms, and generally a student who employs this tactic, validly, is awarded a spot in the school's new student roster. After all, the American Way is "whatever it takes".
The Amptons are where most of the "new money" celebrities, city officials and business owners make their homes, and there are rows of mansions - all designed and built on the owners dime - that look completely different from one another. The city requires a somewhat uniform look, so they don't get too out there, but almost all of them have Grecian or Roman pillars out front of them, since the city took to a neo-classical phase a few years back.
Overall, the pace of this area seems to tend towards busy, since those business owners and bureaucrats are almost always looking for new ways to get their name out there and expand their growing empires so that one day, they too could live in Plymouth Point, validly. Generally, the only crime that happens in the residential area comes from Millionaire Madams (read: escorts) who use their mansions to throw lavish escort parties, and supply rooms for the "after party entertainment", white-collar drugs and occasionally a musician who goes bonkers or overdoses on something or other.
