History
The Ampton Learning Center was built shortly after the riots in 1977. It was created for the soul purpose of providing education to the wealthy family’s that moved to the island in refuge from the poor and unruly lower classes. It was originally named Barns Learning Center after the first head administrator but in 1984 Barns was found guilty in a number of charges involving young boys and the school board decided unanimously to change the name.
In 1984 a small fire in the science lab injured two children and the resulting lawsuit almost ruined the institution. The assistance from one of the families “who is still anonymous” allowed the school to continue to operate. Not long after it became known as the school to go to after 24% of its graduating class was accepted into Hawthorn University something unprecedented in all the other private schools on the island. Some of the other school administrators in Carcosa claimed foul play, but the administrators at Ampton Learning Center assured the press that it was only jealousy.
Description
The school set’s in one of the many wealthy sections of Ampton on a well kept lawn of painfully green grass. Its two story brick construction gives it and old feel although all the equipment found inside is the most modern the wealthy parents of its occupants can afford.
The building has old white and black tile floors and well made wood trophy cases line the halls. Although not as obtrusive as other public schools small security cameras can still be seen keeping an eye on the students and the schools security guards are constantly on the look out for trouble makers.
While few exceptions exist the school is mostly quiet at night and even the janitor dose most of his cleaning right after school lets out.
