Mortal Life
Alex LaCoste was born on a dark stormy night, June 23, 1952. Most people would assume that the birth of the first and only child to the famous LaCoste family would be of significance to the parents, but like many children of privileged upbringing, his arrival didn’t spur interest within his parents. In all honesty, Alex’s parents, both father and mother, were not present. Alex’s surrogate mother gave birth to Alex while his mother was, more likely than not, passed out from the newest cosmetic drug to sweep into town and his father was away on medical business, meaning this late at night he was with his mistress and had passed out.
It would suffice to say that Alex’s upbringing was not similar in the least to the local children of his Haiti hometown, nor were the skill sets and knowledge he acquired. Due to the protection of his family name Alex would frequently terrorize the local children and their mothers, playing tricks and games that were at times devastating to the people. But more astonishing than anything else is that Alex would often sabotage a family and divert the blame to neighboring children. When acting as a privileged outsider didn’t offer any more excitement Alex’s father Alekto would allow Alex to accompany him on house calls to patients, which commonly ended in Alex’s waiting in the sitting room while his father “finished up” with the patients care. Other nights his father would all but forget about Alex and he would have to walk home, many miles further than normal daylight routes. This continues long enough for Alex to discover that he was well capable of seducing the young women of the household while his father bedded the woman of the house. Reprieve at home came in the form of nannies that would sweep in and become loyal, caring companions for Alex but would soon become interests of his father’s lust. During his adolescence Alex’s watched one nanny after another fall victim to the passion and then boredom of his father, ultimately ending in the disappearance of the nanny. Very few of the disappearances actually bothered Alex, he had become accustomed and desensitized to the disappearances and took the opportunity to grief the new employees.
As Alex grew older he began to understand why his mother spent most days, poolside, wearing dark sunglasses and a big hat. Drugs were her vacation, her reprieve from years of mental and physical abuse. It’s not to say that Alex’s mother Cassandra didn’t offer any knowledge to her child, that knowledge often coming in the form of the best drug for a specific situation, but most days Alex’s only contact with his mother would be a cordially hello when taking his morning swim. For a brief time Alex did interact with his mother often. Many summers during his pre-teen years Alex would accompany his mother to political functions to keep her company while his father was socializing with the bureaucrats. From a very early age Alex masters the ability to hide his mothers’ drug addiction and could carry on her conversations without the other party fully realizing they had engaged a teenager.
Toward puberty Alex became tiresome of his parents estate walls and began to explore the surrounding jungle and eventually fell in love with the ocean. After terrifying the local surfers with stories and dramas of shark attacks he began to spend time on his self established, abandoned beach. Many uneventful nights Alex slept on the sandy beach staring up at the stars, disappointed that the world did not offer more. It happened by shear luck that one night Alex had moved farther down the beach than his usual spot. Near dusk on a clear night he was looking out over the waves toward the distant uninhabited island and noticed a fire burning. He watched for a long time before gaining the courage to swim the near mile gap between the beaches.
Upon washing ashore Alex’s life would change for the better, the world would have meaning, it just wouldn’t be the meaning that his parents had always expected out of him. This fire that had drawn Alex across the water was a well controlled and deliberate blaze. It was on this island that Alex met a man named Etowah La Croix. Etowah was a very talented, feared and respected witch doctor with the local people. Alex had never heard of Etowah because, his father being a wealthy doctor, their was no justification in the voodoo of the local peoples. Alex fell in love with the mysteries and darkness which enveloped the therapeutic rituals of the voodoo culture. Many nights Alex would venture to the island to learn from Etowah, and many days Etowah would have Alex accompany him and learn the trade of the voodoo peoples.
Alex’s constant disappearances finally reached the notice of his father, and after 8 years of friendship with Etowah, Alex performed his final swim to the island. To Alex’s dismay he found the island utterly destroyed, with no sign of Etowah save for the wooden shards of his humble hut. After that Alex took to impersonating himself as Etowah’s apprentice and continued to follow the healing practices of his disappeared friend. However, gaining the trust of the local people turn south when Alex started to attract many of his female clients and their daughters.
Embrace and Requiem before Atlanta
Late summer of 2076 Alex was given the opportunity to escape the resentful reaches of his parents, family lineage and local reputation. Being a trust fund child it was not an uncommon request when Alex petitioned his parents for a trip to the United States of America. He had invested much of his money in capital funds and had more enterprise than the humble means by which he lived on the island. Alex presented to his father the opportunities that could be captured in the aftermath of a hurricane and successfully secured a trip to Louisiana, in Louisiana Alex disappeared. Into the masses of the homeless and underprivileged it was easy to dissolve your identity and assume a new one as an American citizen. Alex spent many nights either in back alleyways gambling and getting a fix, or quite opposite, servicing the ritzy woman whose husbands were occupied with the cities difficulties. It was late a night at a free soup kitchen that Alex met Brigette Celestine. At first sight Bridgette seemed to be an adventurous and caring African American with modest origins. Closer however, Alex realized that she was not only adventurous and caring but also extremely sexual and caressing, with caramel skin, eyes as deep and colorful as the wide ocean and an air that was utterly intoxicating. Everything changed by morning, a morning that Alex would never see, and the prospect of seeing that sunrise would prove to be his last.
Brigette never revealed anything to Alex, he simply became what it was he would become without much realization that it was happening. He had been intoxicated to the point of complete unfamiliarity and bewilderment before, but never had he resurrected so quickly. After that night, Alex would never want for excitement again.
With the assistance of his new Sire, Alex was reintroduced to the world. New Orleans buzzed with life and unlife like no other place he had ever experienced. Culture seemed to take a new meaning as experiences and knowledge flowed into him and the VooDoo learnings that Etowah passed to him took life. Many nights Brigette would escort Alex through the city, meeting Kindred, learning protocol, crafting his own niche in the life that he could now create. Alex and Brigette continued in a mixed relationship of Mother and Son or lovers for many many years when they decided it was time to take reprieve from the city and fall into a deep slumber, intertwined with each other. Alex awoke just before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and discovered that his Sire has already awakened and had been called away. Urgent messages had always been received and delegated accordingly but this particular correspondence required Brigette to leave immediately for Atlanta, Georgia. After a long year of silence, and in his unformed sense of time, Alex has once again found himself drawn to the dim flickering of a mysterious flame. Either in search of his beloved Sire Brigette or in search of another interpretation for the life he is facing, something waits in Atlanta.

Sevis Petro
Petro is the unrenowned and darkest form of Haitian Vodou. Petro is considered the “black magic” Voodoo and the Voodoo of angry, mean and nasty Loa. Dangerous things happen in Petro including death curses, the making of zombie and wild sexual orgies. However, the practitioners of Petro do not regard their beliefs or rituals as dark or dangerous in the least, having promoted wealth, health and beauty for many ages, nor do they attribute death, destruction or mayhem to anything that they themselves have done. Rather they attribute the negatives to two major theories, though having been revisited by scholars over the many centuries, were introduced at the creational of all things. First, Lex Parsimoniae, at all times when chaos is shifted toward neutralism, the simplest solution is always the best. And, more importantly than the first rule of creation is the second, because it deals specifically in contrast with the first. Dialectical Materialism, chaos is the nature of all existence. Never anywhere has there been existence without chaos, or chaos without existence, nor can there be.
