99 Bottles of Beer

Location: East Docks (Oceanfront)     Predatory Taint: 0

Atmosphere: Unruly
The people in this environment are not likely to be unified in their behavior or motivations, but they are all angry or concerned about something. It might be something within the environment itself or perhaps something abstract such as a recently passed law or word of some decision made by organized crime. Violence against outsiders is a strong likelihood in these environments and requires little more than direct eye contact or an overheard conversation to spark it. Some property destruction has likely already been committed, and local law enforcement may already be en route to keep an eye on the environment. Subtle or socially skilled outsiders should be able to get through without provoking aggression if they play their cards right.

Description

Located on the southern tip of the East Docks, 99 Bottles of Beer caters mostly to sailors and dock hands, but lately has become popular with biker gangs as well. Outside is a large gritty parking lot, usually filled with a small crowd of drunken dock workers. They harass women passing by with perverted comments, usually targeted at the prostitutes who regularly work the area.

The sign out front is a green plank of wood with the words "99 Bottles of Beer" carved into it. Though, to locals, the place is just known as the 99. A thick wooden door gives entrance into the old pub. The door has two bullet holes through it, and looks like its been smashed open a few times. If anyone tries to enter the pub who looks out of place, the small gang outside will attempt to turn them away, resorting to violence if threats don't work.

Inside is just as dangerous. The place is arranged like an English Pub, but the atmosphere is far from quaint. Dock workers and sailors sit at the stools lining the bar, bikers fill the tables in the far corner of the place. Tensions are high between the two groups, and one wrong look is all it takes to send the place into a chaotic brawl. Bar fights are a nightly occurrence; the tables, chairs, and stools tell the tale. Many of the legs are haphazardly glued back on, and large splinters are frequently missing.

The owner attempts to control things with entertainment, often hiring strippers or rock bands. There is a small stage and a poll, the space around it sometimes becomes a makeshift dance floor. The owners daughter works as barkeep, and dresses quite scandalously, often wearing only lingerie. She enjoys the attention, but everyone knows not to touch her. There's a shotgun behind the counter, and lil Sally knows how to use it.

In the far corner of the bar, there is a black door labeled employees only. Behind it is a staircase that leads down into a basement, secret to everyone but the regulars. This basement functions as a gambling den. It features a thick cement walkway that borders the room hugging the wall. 10 feet below the cement is a concrete area known as the pit. It is at the center of the room, and hosts everything from dog fights, to bare knuckle boxing, to no rules street fights. Opposite the staircase is a back exit, leading to a small alley behind the pub. Fighters and VIP's enter and exit through the back door. The alley is also a favored location for drug deals amongst the regulars.
